Lucid Dreaming
« on: April 25, 2010, 05:35:36 PM »
Has anyone ever heard of lucid dreaming? I've been practicing on and off for a few weeks now and although I haven't triggered self awareness yet I'm remembering a lot more dreams than I usually would.

It's quite interesting. Here's a wiki article on it: http://www.wikihow.com/Lucid-Dream

Lucid dreaming may not be as good as you think. I once was completely lucid with no dream. I was sleeping but was aware. I couldn't open my eyes or smack myself no matter how much I tried. I had to wait until morning to wake up. Luckily time flows faster.

I've had that happen a couple of times. It's pretty strange. I've always been able to will myself awake though, after just a few minutes of trying.

Woh, you were just lying there unable to move? I think that's sleep paralysis. I've had several lucid dreams in my younger years, but they were all accidental and sometimes just caused me to wake up. The idea of practicing lucidity is to promote control over your dreams, which as you can imagine would be a thrilling experience. Some lucid dreamers even boast using their dreams to study or practice a craft, as during what's called REM sleep your brain goes over the activities of the previous day.

Yessir, I wouldn't mind getting a few hours work of Moon Fable done in my sleep. ;D

That would be productive except for the fact that you would have to actually do it when you woke up.
I must be dreaming (wake up me wake up) How could this have happened. Tireas' cry when he found his computer fallen over in his chair with it's screen shattered.

I've had dreams where I've accomplished something great in the iPhone RPG...
Then I wake up and go to my computer. Very disappointing.

Well, this is weird. I watched an episode of American Dad off the DVR where one of the characters has a lucid dream. Then I went to sleep, and had a sort of lucid dream.

All I can remember now is just standing in a room and trying to fly by jumping, but I guess I'm a pretty lousy dreamer because all I could do is jump twice as high as normal.

I also had the alarm set, but I kept getting up and pressing snooze. I did this for nearly 3 hours (I didn't have anywhere to go, but I wanted to try and get up to keep a good schedule). Between the snoozes, I was having little micro-dreams, which means I was laying down and going almost immediately back into REM sleep.

I have these kinds of dreams at least once a month.

I had a vividly realistic dream two nights ago where me and my sister were discussing TV commercials and how they rarely make any sense (a subject which we often do discuss) when we happened to glance at the TV and see a ridiculous addvert for "The Fugitive". The following was the dialogue (spoken in a dramatic movie advert voice, and yes, the horrendous grammar was included):

A man wakes up after murdering his wife but discovers that he hadn't already done it, so he calls the police who inform him of his loss and he becomes: The Fugitive!

I woke up because I could hear myself laughing. I've never actually seen The Fugitive, but I'm sure the plot is nothing remotely like that.

WOW man you guys crack me up for some reason...
I remember a few times when I was trying to get myself to have a dream where I could fly and when it worked it was fun.
I also heard there's people who can think of ideas in their sleep.
