Has anyone else heard of this? My Java teacher showed it to me... at first glance it looks like crap, but after some investigation I found that it can actually do some advanced stuff, including 3d(!). Apparently I'll be using it a lot in my Java class this year, so I should be able to review it soon. Anyway, anyone who knows Java (I'm looking at Gan) should check this out.

Yeah, I've dabbled with it. It can do pretty much anything as you can access the source code.

That's pretty neat. Makes it pretty easy to make a game, just add objects and give them properties and actions. Played a fun game, makes it easier to set up and organize a game, though I probably won't make any creations with it. Once the next semester comes along, I think I'll put Java on the shelf and take down Obj-C.
This year I have independent studies where I'll be free to spend school time studying programming languages and anything else related to computers.

Our school doesn't appear to have that course. Instead they have individual elective courses like digital imaging, computer programming, industrial graphic design, computer networking, ect...
I was able to get into independent studies with the backing from my Vb.net programming teacher. I'll be the first person in BIT academy to go into independent studies.
(So far I'm really excited, independent studies start next semester. I'll devote most time to Obj-C in Xcode, part time to Vb.net, some to teaching my programming teacher's class, and others to help students understand some concepts of programming)

Funny you should say that, my old school recently asked me to come in and give lunchtime lessons on BASIC and C.

One pretty good thing Microsoft actually did: Vb.net.
I'll probably always love that language... It's so easy but can do some pretty great stuff.

I've heard of Greenfoot... It's good for people who are learning java, from the very beginning, and there's tutorials on the site. (hence the name)

After working with Greenfoot for a while I can't recommend it for anything serious... maybe if you're just trying to learn.
