Terminal easter eggs
« on: October 14, 2011, 09:38:18 PM »
So I was looking for a Tetris download one day, then I realized I didn't need one.

1.Open Terminal
2.Type in "emacs"
3.hit escape
4.type "x"
5(without hitting space) Type "Tetris"

That's it. You'll get a fully playable tetris inside the terminal. Use the arrow keys to play.

Anyone else know of a terminal easteregg?

It might not work in newer versions of OSX. It works on my iBook that's running 10.3.9 Tried on 10.5, it works.

Maybe try hitting escape and x at the same time, then type tetris. Unless emacs doesn't work for you. I've found some other neat ones too. Type pong or snake in the place of tetris and you'll get those games. You can also see star wars IV (Yes, the whole movie) in text (Like pictures made of dots and dashes. I know there's a word for that, but I don't know what)

Just open terminal and paste "telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl " without the quotes.

Terminal easter eggs my specialty :P

Code: [Select]
telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl
star wars episode IV ASCII art

Code: [Select]
/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background
my favorite, sets you desktop to a moving screensaver.

Code: [Select]
chflags hidden ~/desktop/*
hides your desktop clutter

Code: [Select]
chflags nohidden ~/desktop/*
brings it all back

Code: [Select]
history
all the commands you've used so you don't have to go back to this every time  8)

Should be lowercase tetris not capitalized.
