Old OSes are still a hot subject :

once again, will you ever be making a version that works on 10.4.11?

Probably not. If I want to program for 10.4, I'll need to digress back to Obj-C version 1.0.

Wow ! Up till recently, I was "still" on OS 9, and I thought that was the oldest one could go...

BTW I think OS 8.6 is mostly the same as OS 9.

It is quite simple really. He either does not have the money, time, or doesn't want to. Or I could be wrong he might just be getting around to do it, but is procrastinating.
I must be dreaming (wake up me wake up) How could this have happened. Tireas' cry when he found his computer fallen over in his chair with it's screen shattered.

Thanks.

The whole Web 2.0 thing didn't happen in his world. He's got dial up so he doesn't use his connection for much other than emails.

If he's still using OS 8 then he has a very old Mac that probably can't run a new OS anyay. Even if it could, why spend money for such an old Mac that is too old and slow to run anything current. One good option if money is tight is to upgrade to a used Mac. Then you get an upgraded OS and newer Mac for one low price.

BTW I'm sure GameMaker, SilverCreator, etc. also run in emulators.

Not very well.
Actually I couldn't even get PearPc to work on windows. Emulating anything on windows is cruddy, emulating windows on a mac is... only as cruddy as running windows natively. Which is still pretty cruddy.

People are too obsessed with "upgrade, upgrade, upgrade" and that anything old is inherently bad and therefore worthless.

If his old Mac with OS 8 is allowing him to be productive then what the hell is wrong?

As far as OS X goes, however - no one should be using anything less than 10.4. If your Mac can run 10.2 or 10.3, it can also run 10.4.

Then it stands, the only reason you should be using 10.4 and not 10.5 is because you have a G3 processor. Even 450 MHz G4s can run Leopard just fine.

You should also have a minimum of 512 MB of RAM. Anything less will be severely degraded.

If you have an old Blue & White G3 then I can sell you a G4 processor for cheap. You can drop it in and now OS X will run faster and you can upgrade to Leopard. Fill the RAM slots up and get a faster hard drive. You will have a very usable machine.
