I'm currently using an old imac and I don't think it's running 10.anything. I don't think it's even 10!

Why don't you upgrade?
For many years, Mac OS 9 was well enough (had decent programming, paint, 3D software), and I had no idea how to upgrade.
Also, at one point I gained access to a PC, which was mostly good at surfing the net (Paint sucks).
It's only recently that OS 9's Internet support began to break dramatically (and, BTW, that GameMaker ceased to support it ^^) : 10.2 is my "first" OS X

Ah.

9's  games are still 10 times better than X's.

Of course, GameMaker and many classic games (such as Circuit11) were created in the Classic Mac OS.
GameMaker feels like it has a more classic-like look and feel/GUI.
I still port my projects to OS 9, because I've been using it for so long..
