What should I get?
« on: October 19, 2009, 05:16:17 PM »
My birthday is coming up, and because I really hard to shop for my mom this year just wants me to pick my own, what do you think I should get (I'm also getting money to buy video games so I'm good with those).

I'm thinking of getting Torque 2D (around 100 without source code)

A game creation engine would be a pretty sweet buy, though I'd rather buy a programming book so I could program my own game and engine.
Like maybe an iPhone programming book... That you could learn from the best and maybe lend to me every once in a while... ;)
Though on a more serious note, that watch gadget you showed me earlier looked amazing.

So many options.

Watch or engine, but what exactly is an engine? Is gamemaker an engine?

Put simply, "engine" is just a term used for a large chunk of task oriented code. My "battle engine" in Quest of Magic for example is all of the code used to handle battles. Mac GameMaker is a game creation engine; it's task is to create games.

I often use the term "routine" instead when I'm taking about small chunks of code.

Happy birthday btw! :D

I highly recommend against Torque 2d... I tried out the demo and its really hard to work with (bad interface, confusing setup, ect.)

Get the watch, then install Linux on it. Then buy a tape player and install Linux on that as well.

I ended up buying this watch, basically a small OS in a watch, although It would probably look weird answering the watch when I get a call to say the least  :-/

Just keep the Bluetooth headset in so you don't have to keep the watch on your ear :P
