So, I am in possession of a nice microphone, a guitar, and a bird. The bird is the problem here. You can't get him to shut up, which is nice sometimes, but I digress. I think a lot of people don't realize how loud birds are. Whenever I record something, I either have to move him to another room, or do noise removal. I did noise removal on this little recording, so it has very poor quality.

This is my cover of Twisting, by They Might Be Giants. It'll be funnier if you read the following after listening.

Don't look below here.

Seriously, don't.

I've warned you.

Okay, I'm gonna say it...

I beatboxed. I must admit, I'm a little rusty, and the roll could have been better, but I'm moderately impressed by how little it sucked. It actually was pretty neat. Oh well, I meant for it to be funny.

Oh yeah, I should mention, I do everything in Stereo, so you're going to want to listen to this with headphones. The only completely centered track is vocals, which is pretty standard.

Now, it's no secret that I'm also a bit of a graphic design guy. I can't draw, but I can make an awesome album cover or desktop background. Anyway, I figured I'd make an album, so I designed a cover. I must admit, I'm really proud of this. I combined ideas from some of my favorite album covers, while keeping my own general idea. Not really a music project, per se, but it is relating to music, so I figured I'd put it here.

Ultra high resolution. Just about 4K. I'll scale it down for an actual CD, I guess.

That would look great on a CD.

...Hey this question goes out to all you GMG people: Do you know what I should look for in a mic? I don't need a very expensive one, but almost anything's better than the computer's built-in mic.

I have a Blue Yeti. It's kinda pricy, but it's a great stereo mic with really great quality (as long as you record in a quiet place and don't have to do noise cancellation.

http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Multi-Pattern-Microphone-Headphones/dp/B003LRY1UE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404229003&sr=8-2&keywords=Blue+Yeti+microphone

That's basically my setup right there. I mean, I use Koss UR20 studio headphones and The Pop (Blue's pop filter, it came with my mic) I use Audacity for all my editing and recording. Many YouTubers and podcasters use the Yeti, because it's small and very high quality. It has great settings for surround sound and stereo (even an awesome 360 degree mode that works great for recording full bands). It also has realtime audio feedback, which really helps if you're going to do anything vocal.

If that seems like a bit much, you could go for the cheaper Blue microphones, as in my experience, Blue really knows what they're doing. I got my mic for free, so it's not as though I paid the full price.

http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Snowball-Microphone-Headphones/dp/B003LS178W/ref=sr_1_17?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1404229063&sr=1-17

Here's the same bundle with the Snowball, another mic I see in a lot of YouTube videos. These two seem to be quite popular with commentators as well as musicians.

If you're looking for something really small, they also make the Snowflake.

Other than those, I'm sure there's other brands that make cheaper mics. I don't know about other Blue microphones, but I'm entirely satisfied with the Yeti.

Cool, I think I've heard of the Snowball before. I'll think about it when I have some more money I suppose. :)

Also I look at the lyrics again and I just realized that Twisting is a breakup song.

A really harsh and malevolent one too. That's the essence of a good TMBG song: really screwed up lyrics to an upbeat melody.

I use a snowball too, it's a good choice if you don't need extra mixing hardware.

In fun news: I'm probably going to acquire an accordion pretty soon. So that's exciting. Because accordions are freakin' awesome. Then I may redo my Twisting cover with an accordion solo and stuff. Because I anticipate being just awesome at it. XD
