That's probably possible but the terminal on the OS X boot cd is limited and I'd have no place to save the bundle. I tried hooking my Mac to another Mac laptop through target mode but it wouldn't see the hard drive.

You have to set the good Mac to target mode, then boot the bad Mac off of the good Mac's hard drive. You are basically jump starting the bad Mac. Then you can run "diskutil list", and if you still see the drive there then it's recoverable. Then you run "dd" with some parameters I don't remember at this time.

The directory got corrupted - this happened to me a few months ago on my G5, but I had a 100% Time Machine backup, and the corruption wasn't so bad yet. OS X could mount the drive but not write to it. I was able to copy any last minute files that might not have been backed up, then I zeroed the drive and reinstalled Leopard.

Yeah...
I zeroed out my drive, reinstalled snow leopard and am still having the same issues. I think my hard drive may be busted.
The noticeable issues are:
(1) Flash games won't play.
(2) My computer won't update. When I click to update it'll download then when unarchiving it says it's corrupted or can't be verified.

What part failed? Booting the bad Mac, or diskutil list, or dd?

Both Macs have to be Intel, I don't think you can mix when it comes to that. The OS also has to be compatible (2008+ Macs can't run Intel Tiger. most can still run plain Leopard though except the newest i7, etc.)

Booting part, though the other mac wasn't an intel.

My only problems now are with unarchiving files.
When I try to unarchive certain files they say it is corrupted when it is not. Plus when I do a software update or get the downloads off the apple site manually they both still say the packages are corrupted. Or safari spits out a "The operation couldn't be completed. (SafariErrorDomain error 1.)" when finishing the download.

Any ideas? After many google searches I'm reading posts where people are blaming their routers...

Check the drive's SMART status in Disk Utility.

Lost all data on my hard drive. Though managed to stick my most important sources on my iDisk before the hd died.

Important sources such as everything having to do with the RPG, right?

Yeah, the iRPG is saved... I hope. If I could get the unarchiver to open the zip file....

SMART status is good. I've managed to destroy this error by plugging directly to the internet instead of through the router. It is a router problem some how.

Wow so weird my HD died just a couple of days ago (again) and I was coming back to the forums and I saw this topic. I am beginning to think Apple is making bad HD's so people have to get them replaced every once and a while. This time the HD dying wasn't so bad. I got it replaced quickly enough so its not completely dead and I can recover the files. Also as a bonus my new hd is twice the size of my old one and has 10.6.
I must be dreaming (wake up me wake up) How could this have happened. Tireas' cry when he found his computer fallen over in his chair with it's screen shattered.

Apple doesn't make the HDs, I think it's Samsung or some other company.

I am not saying that Apple is manufacturing them badly I am saying that Apple is changing them to be bad. Apple is diabolical.

(The statements made are not intended to slander Apple in any way and are said in the context of a joke.)
