why is this so "crazy"?

this was brought up before. because, every hack/wannabe programmer and their little brother would modify it with some buggy new feature and tarnish the sc reputation

why would mike just give the source out? just from my perspective, if i spent years developing something as valuble as sc WHY would i open source it? WHY?!

Sc's reputation wouldn't be tarnished if Sc was open sourced on a Google Code Repository. People would have the ability to look through it and play with the source but only Mike can make the changes.
Sc is valuable but not worth money cause it's free. Aspiring people who want to see Sc grow can use the source, add a change, send it to Mike, and if Mike likes it he could make the change in the official source.

There's nothing crazy about open sourcing a free project. It fuels creation and is incredibly safe.
You can always select an open source license if you feel worried.
