Parking Panic
« on: August 30, 2009, 09:53:46 PM »
I'm working on a puzzle game called Parking Panic whereby the player has to get the blue car out of the parking lot by moving all the other inconspicuously parked cars out of the way. The game is a take off of an old OS9 game called King of Parking with exactly the same gameplay but smaller levels. (although I actually got the idea for the game after playing Unblock Me on the iPhone (also identical gameplay but with wooden blocks instead of cars))

The entire engine is built and all of the graphics are drawn. I'm just designing levels and composing a music track.

Here's a screenshot: (the cars are a few pixels off proper alignment as the screenshot was taken in the Editor.psd file instead of GM)

Suggestion:

When you click on a car to enable the cursor to move the car, you should set the cursor to a hand cursor (or other cursor) so it's easy to tell you are in car moving mode. Then when you click to disable moving a car set it back to the normal cursor. That will help a bit because I seem to have trouble clicking off a car especially when I bump another one. It's probably because my Mac is so slow and may not happen on yours.

Great idea Al. I've got six levels finished and once I get four more I'll release the compiled version good and proper like. I've redesigned level three as well, as it was almost identical to level 4.

About the click thing: The active car deactivates when you bump into another car to stop successive bump animations. Should it I have it deactivate on click only?

I have the "real" (non-video-game) version of this.  It's called Rushhour.  I got it when I was nine years old.   :P

Cool idea to make a GM implementation of it.

Yea, me too

Rushhour is pretty cool (and I got mine around 9 years old too... suspicious)

No, the original game was made with plastic cars and was called Rushhour. you would have a bunch of plastic cars and a bumpy plastic gameboard that enforced their movement. it was actually quite fun.

It looks a lot like a train game I was playing the other day where you had to get the train out of the train yard.

So is there an unreleased completed version of this?
