GameMaker to Pc
« on: September 23, 2008, 08:30:47 PM »
Recently I have had an idea of a windows game maker, it had started solidifying in my mind, but the way the code would be set up has some what boggled me.
So, right now I am trying to learn as much as I can of vb.net. There is a great way of getting that experience I need. Also, I know how you guys have lots of pc friends and would love to show them your amazing game but they just don't have a mac. This may be your solution.

I am willing to convert anyone's game here to pc.
(1) You will have full rights of the game.
(2) Game can't be too long, like having a full blown rpg.
(3) I will finish converting eventually, no specific time limit. Usually in a day to a few days depending on how busy my schedule is.
(4) I will share the source with no one.
(5) You will get the vb.net source code of the game.

That's it. If you want a game converted, just post here and pm me the source code. Give a somewhat detailed title and description of the game when you pm me.
I might post some example games up here eventually.

When I finish my game I would be interested in this, but it will most likely fall under the "full blown RPG" category.

That's a very generous offer Gan. I made a Hang Man game a few weeks ago which is fairly simple, so that might be a good starter conversion if you're interested: http://www.mediafire.com/?ojrsmdfrtso

Don't forget to stick in your logo on the credits screen if you do it. ;)

Well maybe I could do a full blown rpg, it shouldn't be too hard to use many subs to have the code repeated. Just call the subs and it decreases the code by many folds.

Thanks :), I will get on it right after I finish writing a five page essay on blood diamond mining in Africa.

I don't really have any logos except the Avisaria logo(Look below), though I won't stick any of my logos on the games I convert or any credit. I plan on making the pc game a exact replica of the gm game, though if you want something like full screen, special buttons, or anything else, I could stick something special in. Maybe even change up the interface a bit.

Sounds like fun.

I would give you one but I haven't made any games in GM yet :P

Whoa, really? What about the utilities you make that help people? I should make this available to the Sc community too. Though Sc is almost dead. Just full of spambots having a heck of a time spamming on a mostly dead forum.

I FINALLY finished that cursed essay. It's approximately 5 pages in double spaced. If any really cares about it, here is the link:
http://web.mac.com/avisaria/englishessay.txt

Besides that I took a look at the hang man game. I like the interface, though it seems to me that gm code is more complex than vb.net. I will start converting it tomorrow. Right now I am going to eat, rest my eyes, and watch a MythBusters. Afterwards, it's bed for me.

vb's syntax doesn't look simpler to me:

vb.net's
Code: [Select]
Imports System.Console

Class HelloWorld

 Â   Public Shared Sub Main()
 Â       WriteLine("Hello, world!")
 Â   End Sub

End Class
GM's
Code: [Select]
PRINT Hello world!

Well Silverwind it seems that GM's code is SUPER COMPLEX I mean you have to type 18 characters. Wait let me take a look at the other one AHHHHHH I don't understand, too many letters. AHHHHH

I read your review of Blood Diamond, nice stuff indeed. I wasn't particularly a fan of the movie, (no pink elephants? No people from the future? No old guy in a wheelchair with an array of concealed nuclear weaponry? I don't know, what's the world coming too...) but your synopsis made it sound very good. :)
