DQ Phone Home?
« on: November 18, 2008, 10:35:00 PM »
I am thinking of reviving DQ (Does anyone here actually remember it :P, Swamp gave it an 11/10 remember :P)

But, not completely. I have proven to myself that making RPGs is a skill reserved for only trhe best (Silver and co) because you need outstandingly amasing patitience to make them :P

The most unique things about DQ were the character drawing and the battle engine, those I plan to revive.

How do you think that I should do it?

If you even added a dozen rooms to the beta you'd have a small yet complete RPG right there. Just keep to this pattern:

Room 1: Plot update.
Room 2: Avoid enemies as you make your way to the other side of the room.
Room 3: Boss or puzzle.

Room 4: Plot update.
Room 5: Avoid enemies as you make your way to the other side of the room.
Room 6: Boss or puzzle.

And so on. What you made was good and followed the pattern. :) You could always add to it after the original build.

Probably. Doodle Quest was a Flash RPG by RedRasor that got as far as second beta before production stopped. It's most memorable feature was undoubtedly the ability to draw your character sprite as well as your weapon. Needless to say, an original element like that instantly makes a game stand out. :)

I even made a banner for it:

AWESOME ya you need to add more to this game I love it already.

P.S. For those of you that think you can't play it because you don't have flash player you can use Safari. Safari has the flash plugin required to play it.

At least we have hope usually we aren't given that much. Usually we have an idea but no one has any hope and well the idea loses interest and everyone forgets it.

I will begin to fix it up ASAP then I will finish the story...

I have an idea for the twist at the end already.

Also, I got most of my music from ASONDSOFT which I think is dead now :-\\
Because of that I need people to make me music...
You will get in the credits :)

Mist

EDIT: PS Should I change the battle engine at all?
I was thinking of rewriting the entire thing a bit because of sloppy code but I might not...

Make sure that you make it so the bullet sprite drawn by the player is flipped during battle... so if you draw a bullet facing left it flips to the right when you shoot an enemy to the right of you.

What if you don't want a bullet? then you cool picture gets turned around and it looks bad.
