Emerin Group Proj.
« on: July 02, 2008, 10:05:19 AM »
Hey, if any of you guys haven't heard, a group of people from Sc and other various places are building a game called Emerin. It was already posted in other posts, but I will highlight what it is about.

Raddakar Posted:
Quote
Here is the introduction story:

Historians of Emerin all have different opinions. Some say that it is
Emeranda, the godness of Emerin, that made the land. Others say it is
Ocnos, the god of Hell. The Lordly People say that is they who
sculpted the land with their magic. What really happened, only a
handful know. But one thing is certain. Since the start, all three
civilizations hated each other.

At first, the people of Ocnos feared those of Emeranda. So a treaty
was signed. If the people of Ocnos should attack the people of
Emeranda, then Ocnos himself would have to grant one wish of his power
to the people of Emeranda. But the same thing happened the other way
around if Emeranda attacked Ocnos.
The Ocnosians were soon dissapointed. The Emerandites were peaceful
people, and Ocnos had no reason to fear them, so he made a plan to
destroy them. He had one day to destroy them, because the next morning
he would have to grant a wish for Emeranda. He allied himself with the
Lordly People, who hated Ocnos, but hated Emeranda much, much more,
and they attacked as soon as the sun rose. They thought for all day
and night, but one city was still standing, and it was Ijhan, Capital
of the Emerandites.
Since they had not destroyed all of Emeranda's land, Ocnos granted the
wish. He could not break the treaty because it was signed with
dragon's blood, and therefore his destiny was to obey it. The wish was
for Ocnos to slit his heart in half and give half to the Emerandites.
He accepted, even thought giving half his heart would be giving half
his power.

The years passed, and the war raged with incredible fury. Nothing was
heard of the Half-Heart of Ocnos, UNTIL THE PART YOU COME IN.
You were thrown in a dungeon when you were just a child. They slit
your heart in half, and gave you Ocnos' half.
You are the greatest weapon of Emerin.
You are the Man with Half a Heart.

Here is the current staff:

Concept/Storyline - Raddakar

Side Quests - (Yohann) Raddakar, Healey007

Graphics - Gandolf? , Hendo

Programming - Gandolf, Healey007

SFX - Raddakar, KungFuFurby

Music - Raddakar, KungFuFurby

This info is more up to date then on the official site, but on the site, there is a map of Emerin and a title drawing. The site is not much, but its better than nothing.

Heres the site:  emerinrpg.9k.com

Now a little bit later I posted some News:

Quote
Hey Everyone. I have some very important news.

It was a very tough decision that took a very long time to answer...

...but, after 3.5 seconds of thought on it, Raddakar and I have decided to port the Emerin Rpg Group project over to Tnt basic. Anyone on this team can still be here, the only thing that will change is the way we program it.

Here are the Pro's and Con's.
----------------------
Pro's
(1) Any window size or even full screen capability
(2) Unlimited sprites
(3) Rotate Command
(4) 3D support
(5) Online support
(6) Awesomely Great Performance, average of 60 Fps
(7) Write text anywhere on the screen
(8) Very similar to Sc Syntax
(9) Syntax Coloring
(10) Syntax mistake checker
(11) Cos, Sin, Tan, and all angle commands
(12) And a bunch more...

----------------------
Con's
(1) Different Community, but still very nice
(2) um...  well...  I can't think of any more con's.

So, we can still have the Emerin discussion topic here, but it will have to be moved to General discussion, but we will also have it on another community.

If anyone wants to join us on this exciting adventure, or still wants to help if they are already signed up, please post here.

And a little later:

This post is for all who want to join or stay joined. This game will have a very professional look made with this engine. It will be totally original, and we have most resources and people to get the job done, but we ran into a little snag.

We need someone that is talented with photoshop or some kind of drawing app to help us create the Gui of the game. (Gui = Graphical User Interface. Ex: Main Menu)

If anyone wants to help, just post here.

-Gandolf

Also, I was looking aorund and I found something. With Tnt I can make a online game with unlimited people! A real mmorpg, and I bet it would run pretty fast.
Anyway, here is an example game I made in 50 lines of code. I converted my space nav to Tnt:
http://www.mediafire.com/?smdxxmwczd3

What has happened is that we are building a RPG game called Emerin. We were building it in Sc but switched over to tnt.

Now, we have all our resources to get the job done, but it would be a lot easier if anyone would like to help.

So far we have a mapper, programmer, storyline creator, music maker, and a maybe graphic creator.

What we need is a person that is talented at photoshop or some drawing app that can help us create Gui's for Emerin. (Gui = Graphical User Interface. Ex: Main Menu)

If anyone has any comments, suggestions, or wants to join. Please post here.

Thanks,
-Gandolf

I'd love to join but, I have no experience and SC or TNT and I can't draw. Besides, it probably wouldn't go anywhere. Like whatever happened to Swashbuckler or whatever it was called.

I must be dreaming (wake up me wake up) How could this have happened. Tireas' cry when he found his computer fallen over in his chair with it's screen shattered.

You will be amazed at how similar the tnt syntax is to Gm. And there are many things you could do.

Don't worry  ;)

With me programming, it will go far. In swashbuckler, it didn't go anywhere cause I couldn't program in Gm. (Didn't own Gm.)

Here is the current progress on the game:
(1) Raddakar has created maps 1-6
(2) Storyline is hugely done
(3) Classes are made
(4) Battle formulae is finished
(5) World Map is mostly finished
(6) Website up and running, but partially made
(7) I already programmed 2 maps, and the tile system in Sc, just have to port to tnt
(8) Currently developing Layout of Main Menu
(9) Currently developing play screen with visual inventory, visual stats
(10) Going to test Tnt Online MMORPG capabilities later today
(11) Currently recruiting poeple for group proj.

-Gandolf

P.S. If you want you can wait until the movement system and main menu are made in tnt, then you can join.

Sound's like you don't need anybody else.

Any kind of help would be really helpful.

It just seems we are getting pretty far because we are actually working hard on this.

I already know the basics of basic. It's code structure is similar to GM, or should I say GM's code structure is similar to it.

Sure! ;)

Do you have any sort of instant messenger?
If so, I will tell you everything I know, answer questions, and show you how to build "Bloby" the game.

It only took Harry and I an hour to figure most things out by sharing what we know, experimenting, and talking back and forth about it.

Sounds like a great project indeed! I'm glad to hear of activity over on the SC side too.

I'm busy trying to finish QoM and this contest entry, so I won't take part myself, but good luck with it! Make sure to post any betas or demos you release. :)

Ive looked into basic, while the syntax is similar to GM or SC it is in some ways fundimentally different. For example, you need to use the DRAWSPRITE command to draw all the sprites on the canvas. Even the idea of canvases is alien from the simple BASIC based syntax of GM.

Anywho, id be glad to help, just remember its not as similar to GM as youd think. METALs even worse for drawing sprites lol. and C++ can barely do it, so as far as im concerned GM wins.

Its very simple.

First, you stick your sprites in the graphics tab, and put them in a image bank. Ex: Id 128.

Then you load the image bank in the code, give that image a sprite number, create the sprite, and draw frame. Which will show you everything you have done.

Very simple, I could show you if you have and sort of Im.

It gets difficult when you want to draw things at different times, or not draw things. Canvases make that easier though i guess.
