This is a good time frame. I'm not making any promises but I'll probably be able to enter. Also, as we get closer to the start I'll see if I can donate money for some prizes.

Time frame looks good.
What would be the best way to give credit to gamemaker engine creator?

I will try to do something for this, it aligns pretty nicely with my winter break.

I assume we can use game making programs other than gamemaker.

Well you know what? TNTBasic, which I am very excited about, has a built in tile map system, and would be ideal for a basic RPG. I think I can build an engine fairly quickly. (I know I'll have less time than some since I forgot about this. :/)
However, I already can build a map make collisions and add various objects so - Anyone want to join forces!?
I know enough programming to implement things I will need, I'm just less experienced with making an RPG work well. Most of the things learned from SC and GM should still apply, too, so if anyone has pointers for making, say, random encounters or a good inventory/item system... Heck, there was even a template on the site for "weighted" random numbers on the site, good for battles.

We should disqualify general programming languages such as Cocoa, REALbasic, etc. and define a list of approved game makers.

The idea being that you would be required to push the boundaries provided by the game creators. For example WarHampster's 3D work in SilverCreator, and all of the early 2000 games made in GameMaker by various young developers at the time.

I agree with Mike on this one. Having a list of approved game makers will level the game field.
This is the GameMakers Garage. It's only fair that we all use GameMakers in the contest.

I'd sooooo love to cook something up for this, but my spare time is still impossibly scarce. I'll try my best to make a small RPG, but I think the following haiku sums up my chances of getting one finished.
