Chips are pretty good in themselves, but it's the ranch that really gives them the flavor... That ranch in macs is the way the structure is set up allowing all it's controllers, CPUs, graphics cards, ect, to have close, easy, and fast access to each other and keeping cool to run at the maximum efficiency possible.

Oh. What is the ranch exactly, the board the chips sit on?

Ranch was just an analogy. :P I intermixed and linked computer chipsets and potato chips to show a point. Ranch dip is what you dip chips in. ;)

Arg. No different from a well-built PC.

Meh no OS will ever be as good as OS X. Windows is a joke, Linux is a joke. If your so obsessed with upgrading by a fraakin PC and be done with it. I can upgrade my RAM no problem and thats all I care about. Mac is about unity and im fine with that. Not everyone wants to have to take apart their computers all of the time to upgrade a bunch of shit.

Thats not the point... the point is that macs are overpriced because you can build an equally powerful machine that can still run OS X for a fraction of the price of a mac.

Oh and also, if you play games at all then you do want to upgrade a bunch of shit, as you either need to upgrade your video card every few years or be unable to run the newest games.

Windows is a joke
Amen to that.

Linux is a joke
Linux makes the sun rise in the morning. Without the Linux kernel, we'd have no stable or reliable servers. Sure, we've got OS X Server now (massively overpriced but there you go), but back in the days of the dot-com boom, Mac OS would crash upon Jupiter aligning with Mercury or if the microphone picked up naughty words that it didn't like, and there's no way any self-respecting server baron would use Windows to host a website over two megabytes in size. It's still the case, even to this day.

Not everyone, but it's nice to know that if you wanted to, you could go and buy a new processor and only throw away one old processor rather than an entire system, which is kind of a waste really. Sure, you could sell it, but what do you do with it a decade down the line? It's obsolete by that point.

I'm thinking maybe that many of you haven't really looked into the PC in great detail. It's a good platform. Windows is a bad OS that happens to run on it. They're two very different things.

Against the Mac OS terms of use.

i agree with you telstar PC's just do run a bad OS, and i also agree that linux is great for servers. i meant linux is no good as like a core OS for someone to use compared to OS X.

Maybe you should look at Haiku then. It's not OS X, it's not Linux... and it is only only alpha 1 at the moment, but definately worth checking out. Say, it would be nice if I could install it on my Mac on another partition... :)
