Believe it or not, I've never owned an NES before, but I bought one last night from ye olde game store. I suppose this makes me an official NESkimo. I love it. Honestly. I've played all the games before, but they're so much better on the real thing.

So, what's your favorite game? I can't say since I only have 3 (tetris 2, duckhunt/mario, and punch out!!).

Also, about the Zapper, mine is grey. Are the orange ones more common than the grey ones? I heard somewhere that they were originally grey, but they changed it to orange because you have to make toy guns bright colors, so no one thinks they're real (because the police had to shoot a kid who aimed a gun at them and threatened to kill them, but it was actually just a toy.)

My TV is tiny, which sucks for duck hunt. You have to have the gun almost touching the screen to aim correctly (which is cheating.)

how much was it? mine is grey too, theyre more rare. theres also a label on the bottom that tells you the production number, sinse its gray its probly within the first 10million. you should definatly check out river city ransom and the original final fantasy. ff is so primitive its like going in  a time machine to 1987. and thats a game i didnt play as a kid, so i have no nostalgic value for it and i still liked it

I've played the original FF, great game. The only problem is every item name is shortened, so you can't tell what half of them are.

Have you the the Angry Video Game Nerd on Youtube? He's funny. Man it's a great system but there were so many terrible games too. XD
And yeah Punch Out is great.

1980-games.com lets you emulate a lot of games without downloading them and breaking laws... Not the same as owning an NES but their emulator always seems to work, which is a plus.

It's not the same at all. I can get bored with mario on a computer almost instantly, but it's really fun on the NES. I have no way of explaining this other than that.

About FF, I have it on virtual console for wii, because they gave me a refund for the web browser.

I got Kirby on Wii, and later Ocarina of Time. I should look at these other old Zelda games WiiWare is great for that, just not great for any new games. Did you know they limit Wii downloads to 40mb? It's just sad.

you can also get a snes usb controller for the computer for 10$ so you dont have to use the awkward keyboard, and play games for free through emulation. its also good for for english translations of some (very few) good japanese games that werent released in america, i recomend

So, I did a little research (meaning google search) and apparently all these NES games would have been programmed in assembly, AKA just one step up from machine code. No wonder some of those games worked so badly, that's not easy to do. :o

i think they compiled in assembly, i dont think anyone actually programs in assembly. but thats just what my computer teacher told me

Okay, so thinking back this was a site on MODDING the games so you probably need to know about assembly to mod NES roms. And people have done it, which is kind of nutty because wouldn't that mean you have no clue what variables do without just changing them, trial and error? because once it's compiled variable names don't carry over.
I wonder what it compiled from. Just out of curiosity. ???
