Welcome to the updated forum.

Hey guys, working on updating the forums.

So far it appears that it works. Seemingly everything has moved over without data loss.

Now I gotta just get the chat box back here and add the side bar.

Everything seems to be back. The chat box is here. The forum bugs are gone. I've added a sophisticated spam blocker, the left bar of links is now the top bar above the forum bar.

What do you guys think?

I like it, except it's a bit annoying to type in posts with this weird font, and I liked the old faces better.

btw NICE JOB getting rid of the pesky spam bots.

Alright, I made the font bigger and added the old smilies to the new.

Now for sub forum arrangement... how do you guys think I should re-arrange the forum? What forums should I add?

I think the forum tabs should still be on the right. It was more unique.

The only subgroups I could think of is a tutorial sub group in code exchange. And QOTM moved to a subgroup inside of contests, but I feel too many sub groups make the forum feel too organized and impersonal. And makes finding the right place to post to much of a hassle. And finding posts when you can't see all the threads in one section because they've been subdivided annys me to no end

Subgroups are a bad idea but if you feel like going through with it you have my ideas above

It's still very iPod navigatiable
and I love the new smilies, but am sad to see the old ones weren't included. At least they're still in the chat box

The old smilies should be there, look a little harder.

As for the forums, I was sorta thinking about X's idea of expanding to include more tools and languages. So this could be an all-purpose Mac game making forum instead of just GM and SC specific. (I don't think we'd have subforums, just headers that group them together)

As for the links, I can attempt to put them on the left or right of the forum but I'm unsure how they'll look. They could make the forum look a little squeezed.

I'm gonna need some opinions on this. Let's do a majority vote on what you guys want!

I think the forum looks 100% better without the GMG frames crowding the top and left side.  But with the frames gone, the forum doesn't really look like it's part of the GMG.  Perhaps you should adjust the forum's color scheme to match it.  Also, you should do something to distinguish the links from the YaBB buttons, because the two sets are very similar-looking and close together.

That's what I'm saying. It was a unique feature that this forum had.
I would love it if the forum could become all mac programming
So what about having an unread posts button like I advocated a while ago
I found the old smileys on my computer, they didn't show up on the iPod, or perhapse I skimmed over them at 11.

I suppose I can tint the forums color to green.

I can also look into the Unread Posts button.

Sweet!

You need ads to keep the site up? I'm sure I could put in some forum ads.

No I don't, AdSense and adbrite banned me for not having enough traffic. So I'll just pay for hosting/domain name out of pocket.

That's messed up.
There's probably other ways to keep the GmG afloat.
