NotePlayer
« on: April 27, 2010, 06:15:25 PM »
My Software Development lecturer came up with this idea to write a note player in C#, where we should make our computers beep at the press of a key.

I took it a step further... in REALbasic.

At this very moment I've finished a quick beta/sample to show him.
I thought y'all would like to have a look as well! :D

NotePlayer Beta (3.1 MB)

Feedback is appreciated!

This is awesome!!!

Mary Had A Little REEEEEMIZZ!
Sort of confusing at first but you get use to it. :) Mom helped me make this masterpiece.

P.S. It'd be cool if you could specify how many hands you wanted playing at once with different instruments for each hand. Then you could make an entire band or symphony.
P.S.S. It'd be neat if there were buttons and you could click to try the note or click to add the note in instead of manually typing.
P.S.S.S It;d be awesome if you could export as a sound file.

It took me about two hours to make the Sally's Song sample. :P

Thanks! :)

I've managed to add multiple instruments (25 maximum) and extended the note controls to specify hold length and velocity. Apart from that there's now a piano to help with the note writing or write them for you.

So far everything seems to work as it should.

This is so awesome! Now if only it could export to a mp3 file or something...
I would definitely use this to make music.

I'd like to stick to MIDI files for now, but I'm not sure how to write those either...

One thing at a time.

Added checkboxes to the list. Unchecking one instrument will mute it.
I'll try to wrap things up and get this version out. :D

I noticed the lack of percussion, any thoughts on this?

I have to type out the entire list and have only gotten halfway through it.

Oh haha. Sounds good. :) Random question but semi related, in GarageBand can you make instruments play individual notes?

I haven't been able to figure this out. In tutorials I've followed it only really wants me to play and record the music. I'd like to just edit the notes and make it play that way. Like how Redd's program works.
Any idea how?

Command-E shows the editor, you can play/edit individual notes by piano roll or score.
