Week-Long Game Jam - Starting NOW!

http://gamejolt.com/community/contests/

Alright guys this contest last all the way until the 18th of November so I propose we form Team GMG and work on a submission!

If you can't help program or make content, I can still use the help testing and getting feedback to improve the game once it begins to take shape so please post if you'll be available to help make a game this week!

Here's my ideas so far:

1. We could easily match the theme of the contest by making a multiplayer game and calling it a party-game. However, this would require help from Gan. If he can recycle some of the work he did for the chatbox games, it wouldn't take too long to put something online.

2. I can use the engine I made in Processing to make a simple single-player game which relates to the theme in some way.

3. Puzzlescript is amazing! I've also gotten quite skilled at manipulating the rules in it to make more detailed behaviors. A party-themed puzzle might be fun and simple to make, I could have the engine done quick and make lots of levels by the end of the week.

DISCUSS!!!

I'm gonna keep away from starting quick game projects cause usually they aren't so quick and I'm working on SpaceCraft currently.

I'll help in any way I can though.

OKAY here's my personal favorite idea so far, I'm gonna list my ideas for game mechanics please tell me what you guys think.

the DANCE CONTEST ONLINE GAME:

All the players are on a dance floor together. Their goal is to accumulate the most points before the timer runs out. Your points are multiplied if you're standing in a spotlight or some place where the judges can see you better. At the end of the round the judges announce the winner.

Special moves:
Impressing people with Special Dance Moves would increase your score, and you could unlock these in different ways. How we decide to implement them in the game would be a large contributing factor to how the  gameplay finally winds up working. Here's some ideas for them:

Depending on when you use them you would gain more or less points.
Some moves might have a charge-up time and/or a cooldown time.
Perhaps some moves require you to be the first to grab a power-up.
Some moves could also allow you to affect other players, for example, a spin-move that knocks people away from you.

User-Specific Powerups:
There would be powerups that increase your score that are only visible client-side. Opponents couldn't interfere with them and they would be challenging to collect (perhaps you have to hit a button with good timing to collect some of them). If your opponent DID interfere with your movements, you might risk losing points, which adds strategy because you could decide whether you should try and interrupt your opponent or just KEEP ON DANCIN'!
