TNTBasic is dead...
« on: November 26, 2011, 06:11:37 PM »
Well, the latest OS doesn't support PPC applications at all, which means TNTBasic is done for. And a lot of my older programs won't work now.
I will miss the built in tile maps, SC and GM both can't really do as much with that.  :-/

Yeah it's true. :/

The TNTBasic community has seemingly died out. The code was never updated to TNTBasic 2.0 like was planned.

I suppose if it was more popular from the start...

I guess SC is the way to go until it does out. It's unfortunate but it seems there's an end in sight to all our favorite game makers.

I think what bothers me the most is that it was just as useful as SC, and in some cases more powerful, since it uses the canvas for tile map things.
Maybe if there was a better tutorial?
But no, there ARE good tutorials.

I think the game makers need dedicated teams to keep them alive. Teams that don't rely on money and that can gain members when needed.

Pair that with a nice community and you have an increase in popularity, continuous support and frequent updates.

We have a consistant base. Sure I wish Silver would come on more and say some of his fantastic catch phrases like "Gannnnnndolf, you got some 'splaining to do!!" or "Whatcha talking about Gnome"

will that bring Gamemakers? No. but it has giving us a great community to grow as developers. To share projects and what not. Plus, we still got silver creator, which to Mike's credit has become a damn good program.

true dat, but I meant people who used GM.
definitely the community here is wonderful. (my favorite actually) yet none of us seem to have any plans to use GM in the near future.

I should have said noobs. finding people who've never programmed, yet want to, and wrapped them up with gamemaker. I tried to advocate this site to one of my school friends, but he wanted to try python instead. :-/

We need a way to attract new users. :/ And having our game makers go outdated and behind the competition isn't helping.

Maybe we need a new competitor in the game making competition. One that can out do Sc and TntBasic. One that takes things to new heights in speed and flexibility. One that can revive this forum.

This forum also needs a new make-over...

How about you just give everyone a place here -- let anyone come in who wants to make some home-brew games no matter the language/tool. You want to use Python? Sure, come on in! Objective-C? Sure, take a seat! OCaml? Sure, have a cookie! Visual Basic .NET? Leave..... (I joke about VB.NET of course).

Yeah that'd work.

It'd only require a re-working of our forums setup.

Okay. Ghost gave me the raw power to alter the future of this forum. If you guys would like I can start looking into upgrading the YABB to block spam, to test out different themes, and to modify and add sub forums.

Don't know if possible with YABB. Though when I find themes I'll let you guys choose the themes.

Cool, might be time to update the actual website too. Does anyone have control over that or are the details "lost" with Ghost?

I have FTP access to the actual site and also SQL access to the site.
I can probably edit the pages but I'm not sure how well things would turn out.

Probably be best to keep the other site pages as-is, except for updates such as news.

Well I just finished exams so I have a boat-load of time. I might work on some updates and such, then maybe run them by you and have them uploaded..?
