Post by: EqwanoX on March 03, 2011, 12:03:45 PM
i dug this up recently, i originally started this 5 years ago and its been collecting dust. the capablities of sc are so much better now, so ive really had fun updateing everything.

these show the nav system, inventory, and battle system

old screens from the 1.5 days
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e202/eqwanoxgames/old.png

new screens!
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e202/eqwanoxgames/new.png

the silouettes are enemies, so theres no random battles. theres 9 areas with one boss per area

This is so cool. Plus that last screenshot with the homeless guy is kinda funny. Good luck with finishing the game Eq!

heres some more screens, im pretty much done with the mechanics so im gonna be able to release a demo soon, maybe tomarrow, i need people to test it for bugs and balance issues, theres so much shlt to balance, from item stats, player stats, enemy stats, prices and so on, so i really need help with that

you can spend time with strippers to increase your stats

Those graphics are absolutely amazing Eq. The tiles are rich in variety and the profile pics are stunning.

this is so odd, enforcers source is almost 30megs, i figured when its compiled itll probly be 40 cause the runtime usually adds 10, BUT, its 25!!!? all the games i made the source is always much smaller than the compiled version, im testing it right now to see if it all works

finally! the mechanics of the game are completed, im gonna start working on story events and cut scenes for the final version.

so please give any feedback good or bad about what you like or what you would like. and let me know if you find any bugs or balance issues

I've come across a few bugs.

Sometimes after winning battles and going to fight another guy, one click and the fight automatically ends. No victory, the enemy just disappears. Also sometimes the sound doesn't play right, instead it becomes like a fuzzy tv noise.
Also if you get killed by the first boss, the battle noise keeps going even after being revived back at the house.

How do you use the gym?
Also I found a shirt but couldn't seem to wear it.

Post by: EqwanoX on April 02, 2011, 07:18:15 PM
i dont think the battle status is properly cleared when you press a key at the win screen, try clicking the win screen instead

i remember haveing that sound issue with stranded forest, i think that has something to do with either compressing or uploading, it corrupts something

to use the equipment at the gym just walk into it, select the character you want to work out. you use expereince that you get from battles for exercising

equip items by clicking them into any of the three boxes below the character profiles. to use support items or ammo click them ON the characters profile

you can equip 1 gun, 1 melee weapon, and 1 body item like armor or jewelry (jewelry is indestructable)

i fixed those bugs, heres the update. i tryed to upload the raw file to avoid the sound curruption but mediafire wont let me, is there another way to upload uncompressed files?
http://www.mediafire.com/?egffolq7vf7428i

i also made some final balanceing tweaks, rifles were to expensive

each weapon type has benefits and weaknesses

melee weapons
can be comboed 3 times
cant be repaired, so when durability reaches 1 its no good, also pawn shops wont buy it if its broken
dont require ammo

hand guns
can be comboed 3 times
not very accurate

shotguns
good accuracy bonus
random damage
can be comboed 2 times

rifles
high accuracy bonus
high damage
cant be comboed
good for concerving ammo

automatics
can be comboed 3 times
has auto-fire feature
uses alot of ammo
no accuracy bonus

grenade guns
good damage
damages all enemies in one shot
good accuracy bonus

**its also good to pay attention to the ammo type the weapon uses, sinse some ammo can be pricey

Thanks, checkin it out.

So far things work fine, except sometimes tv noise and I still can't wear the shirt:
http://cl.ly/3a223H2Z1p0y3N1u2C1G/Enforcers.m4v

Maybe packaging as a DMG would fix corruption?

P.S. When I go to bed, my health stays the same. Is there any place I can go that allows me to rest and gain health?

P.S.S. It appears that it maybe not be package corruption. Cause I just noticed that the victory music played perfectly for a few times, then one time it just came as t.v. noise. Maybe it's a bug in Sc.

P.S.S.S. I Found a gold ring but I can't equip it.

P.S.S.S.S. Sometimes when I have multiple guys in my party, one of them will still have HP but won't fight cause they're acting like they are dead.

Also, when I die, certain places of town regain all their bad guys. Even if they were completely cleared before.

that equiping bug was tricky, fixed it though
http://www.mediafire.com/?1ln18lj82kcbc1s

be sure to listen to sarah, she'll tell you where to go to recruit more members. each character has thier own strength and weaknesses

going to bed should save your game. it doesnt replenish health sinse theres no random battles, it would be to easy to just go back and forth to replenish your health after every battle. you can use items from the item store in the area where your house is or you can go to the hospital south of your house

when a character has HP but is down its cause they have KO status, some enemies with blunt objects can ko your characters, and enemies with knifes can cause bleeding status which will decrease the characters hp each turn or each step (it should say "knocked out!" when your character gets hit, does the text go to fast?)

-ko status goes away after battle or when you use whisky
-bleeding status is cured by hospital treatments or with stitches that you can buy at the hospital
-you can check character status in the inventory screen

enemies respawn as a consequence for dieing, if your about to die you can escape battle even against bosses

ive been playing the compiled version and i dont notice any sound distortion, but i remember when i downloaded stranded forest on another computer the sound would sometimes (but not always) sound like static, maybe compressing corrupts something in the file, or maybe uploading, whats another good uploading site?

Awesome, thanks! Had no idea Whiskey cured knock outs. The KO text is just the right speed. I'm gonna play some more to find some bugs and stuff.

i uploaded to cloud, does it still have the sound distorton? it automatically compresses it as a zip
http://cl.ly/3l1P0E3Z0l050Z3c3i19

KO also wears off after battle, so you dont HAVE to use whiskey. and you have to use adrenaline shots to cure critical condition status, which happens when a characters hp reaches 0

theres a weapon specialist in the south west area that can modify gun stats

if you do I might suggest a quick fix of a bug I found.

The ring that gives you +30 HP.
if your at full, and you take it off then put it back on you stay at 100 instead of going back up to 130.

EDIT: and yes there is still sound distortion. It works for a little while, and then breaks down into static.

This is just a hunch, but it might have something to do w/ chains. Because for me the problem only starts after you use chains for a little while. probably just a coincidence though.

i cant believe its been 9 months sinse i released this, thats so long, but it doesnt feel that long. anyway, ive been busy but lately i had some time to go back to this. this is a major update, i did alot of rebalancing, i cleaned up some of the graphics, and finished the bosses so its beatable now, also i fixed a few bugs, theres also a few new weapons that were in the older version but not accessable because of a bug. enjoy!
http://www.mediafire.com/?q7u81l9k1l3xvh6

let me know if it still has that static sound bug, it happens after i upload it, maybe i can compress in a different format like .bin? instead of .zip? i have no idea if that would make a difference, nor do i know how to do that.

Wow, this is awesome!  The graphics are great, as always.  The game is really hard, but really fun too.  The important thing is to figure out the best path through the game.  I headed south of the house, and I got the Jericho, the guitar, a jacket, and a box cutter, and I unlocked the Gym and the Thrift store.  But once the jacket and the Jericho were too damaged, I was basically stuck.  Next time I'm going to follow Sarah's advice and head east to the Shamrock.

EDIT: nevermind, I bought a combat knife, and I fought my way to the Shamrock and hired a couple of guys.  We're massacring all the criminals in all the sectors.  It's awesome.   ;D

There's something I noticed that annoyed me a little bit.  The Jericho doesn't look like an IMI Jericho, but rather like a small Sig Sauer.  And it shoots ".38", which usually refers to .38 Special, which is a rimmed cartridge fired from revolvers, not semi-automatics.  Not that it really matters to the gameplay, but it bothers me.   ::)
Title: Re: Enforcers RPG is back!
Post by: EqwanoX on January 03, 2012, 09:07:54 AM
i was worried people would just give up on the game if they got stuck at the beggining because they didnt know to assign thier team first. so i made an open path right to the shamrock, you dont have to fight anyone to get there. theres also a pawn shop to the east of the gym thats easily accessible where you can sell stuff for extra money and buy powerful unique weapons. were you able to beat it?

wow you know alot about firearms, i didnt know .38cal was for revolvers only, would .22cal be more plausable?(thats what  i was gonna  go with originally) i wanted three types of ammo that range in price to factor into the strategy of what weapons you buy, i was really confused about what to choose and i didnt do the research, i definately dont want people to be bothered or distracted when they play my games

quick update

Oh wow.  I don't know why I didn't notice the clear path to the Shamrock.  I went the hard way!  ;D  I've sold a lot of stuff at the pawn shop.  It's expensive, though, so I've only bought one gun there.  I've killed 4 or 5 of the bosses, so I'm about halfway through.

.22 is definitely plausible.  It's one of the most popular rounds among poor gang-bangers.  IIRC, legislators tried to ban the sale of .22 ammo in Chicago, or Detroit, or one of those places, because so many criminals were getting shot to death with it.  The appeal comes from the low cost and the concealable size & weight.  The guns themselves can be had for $50-100 (saturday night specials), and the ammo can be bought in bricks of 500 for around $20.

I beat it!  Saw the last cutscene and everything.  I died intentionally while fighting the Baron the first time, so that I could fight the other guys again (except the bosses) and earn more experience to finish maxing out my party's stats.  It was fun to beat many of the bad guys with just bare hands.  The rest I killed with a sword, a chainsaw, a couple of rifles, and a golden Desert Eagle.  Man, that was fun.  Between yesterday and today, I must've been playing the game for at least 6 hours, which is a long time for an SC game.  Excellent work Eqwanox!

One criticism: I forgot that I was working for Nick, so I didn't realize that I was supposed to go back to the Shamrock after killing the bosses.  That should be more obvious.

... I don't know if it's your fault or Silver Creator's but it stinks.

Wait if this was made in Silver Creator how did you deal with the 100 sprites problem? are the backgrounds just still images, not tiles?
Title: Re: Enforcers RPG is back!
Post by: Gan on January 08, 2012, 05:31:32 PM
Probably used Sc's draw image commands. Cause the background doesn't move.
Title: Re: Enforcers RPG is back!
Post by: Connors on January 08, 2012, 08:06:12 PM
Thing is SC's draw image commands don't seen to work that way.... It wants you to open a file, remember Gan?
Title: Re: Enforcers RPG is back!
Post by: Gan on January 08, 2012, 08:44:13 PM
I believe it could work. When the map changes, use the draw image commands to draw the whole map once. Then use sprites on top of it. That way you only need to redraw the whole map when the player switches to another map.

Though seriously, I'm thinking Eq just made the maps in photoshop. Would be waaaaay easier.
Title: Re: Enforcers RPG is back!
Post by: Connors on January 08, 2012, 11:35:50 PM
That's what I thought. And you could just put it in the background. Hence why sprites look a tiny bit offset from one part of the screen to another. But that looks OK, the grid is less obvious then. (They'll be in the middle of the street in one area and slightly off in another).
But inside buildings it's a bit different, so how is that drawn? Eq? You there? XD

Reminds me of something I wanted to try, matching up a collision map with a pre made level image, so I can make each picture different.

Wait if this was made in Silver Creator how did you deal with the 100 sprites problem? are the backgrounds just still images, not tiles?
your missing a zero there, sc has a 1000 sprite limit.

the city is done in V6 while shops and other inside areas are done in V7. the v7 grid is 44x44p (same as the npc tiles) while the city's grid is 30x30pixels but use the same 44x44p npc sprites which is why they look off in some places. a 30x30 square is to small for npc sprites, but i didnt know that when i made the map for SCv1.5 a few years back which only allowed for a much smaller visible area. i just left it at 30x30 instead of remakeing the city and it actually works out much better that way i think.

im not even sure what circumstance you would use drawimage for, it even says in the syntax not to use it in place of sprites.

Oh awesome! I was sure SOME version only allowed so many sprites...
I'll have to see what I can do with tile maps again. Thank you. XD
