suggestion for future contests
« on: December 04, 2010, 12:00:17 PM »
making a whole game can be alot of pressure and really exausting to the point where most people will give up before completeing anything. i think a good idea for the future would be to see who can make the best game feature. makeing a single feature is much easier than makeing a whole game and it would be rated on ease of use, inovation, coding finesse, things like that. cause that lighting feature warhampster made is cool but he probly wont be able to make a game for it, and there was someone else that had a feature that randomly generates paths on a map which was never used.

my point is, it can be more fun makeing features without the pressure and drawn out deadline of larger projects, its fun just messing around with code, like with v7, im haveing fun just adding features to that. haveing a contest for features may produce more results that we could all benifit from.

Perhaps some entries will feature completed engines/graphics and the beginning but not an entire game, it's been done before.

I like that idea. (Coming from someone who has built engines but never a single Sc game)

I strongly dislike that idea. There is no point in making game engines/ features if you don't make a game out of them. This is game development contest, not a programming contest. Part of the challenge is organization and time management.

What I meant is it's not against the rules to post a playable, but unfinished game that you plan to still work on later. Keep that in mind!

But there is a difference from that and just an engine. Like WH said whats the point of an engine with no game.

And eq just trying to win with his v7 aren't you! lol i'm onto you eq!

I love designing engines, but over the years I've observed that the more engines I make, the less games I make.

I must be dreaming (wake up me wake up) How could this have happened. Tireas' cry when he found his computer fallen over in his chair with it's screen shattered.
