I'm still on 10.68. I'm afraid to upgrade in case some of the stuff I use won't run anymore.
I hear you.  I knew that if I replaced Snow Leopard with Mavericks that I wouldn't be able to play carbonized GM games, old PPC SC games, etc..  But if you have enough extra space on your HD, you can partition it and have Snow Leopard and Mavericks on the same disk.  That's what I recently did.

Alas indeed! How sad it is to live in the realisation of one's younger day fears: The old roads have gone forever, and the new roads present unfamiliar challenges. The journey to that place of realised imagination so often visited in the days of GM seems terribly greater now, and I feel old at the thought of attempting it. Alas! Alas!

Still, having been dreaming and weaving adventures for years, one conviction encourages me: the call of adventure usually comes to unsuspecting young'uns, and to those it calls exploration is not a burden but a large part of the reward.

Technology's rapid change is terrifying, yet, with the internet's expansive nostalgic community, there's always ways of reclaiming the past, at least to a certain extent.

thats the exact reason i hate upgrading, if it aint broke why fix it.

i used to be able to listen to the iTunes radio no problem, now i have to make an apple id with some complex password, and then i have to put in my credit card info! i don't want to buy anything!! i just want to listen to the radio! why do  i need an account for that?!

I use Photoshop Elements 10. Dunno if that works on new Mac or not.

The CC Photoshop may be worth it if you use it professionally/all the time, but Elements (to my knowledge) has many of the same features. The most major difference between PS: Elements and Photoshop Professional is the painting tools, which are far better in Pro.

I'm sure there's non-adobe alternatives to Photoshop if you look around, but I haven't really bothered, since I have a Mac/PC version of Elements on disk that, to my knowledge, has infinite installs.

Well in case your copy of Elements won't work (which is unlikely):

GIMP is a good, free Photoshop alternative, and you can do layers, brushes, text, effects, magic wand, rotate/scale/skew, burn/dodge etc. You'll have to study up on the way it handles layers and copy/paste, but other than that it's not so different from PS.

Paint Tool SAI is only $10 and is built specifically for drawing/painting. It didn't take me long to learn how to use it and it's got plenty of useful features. (I like the selection painter and the ability to rotate the canvas). It also works very comfortably with a drawing tablet.

EDIT: And yes there is a good chance the upgraded Photoshop will have a lot of extra features you will not need, in fact it's probably got so many you wouldn't even have time to learn most of them.

Photoshop Elements has okay painting tools, true. But I'd give a specialized program a try if you're really into digital art. Gimp's good, I haven't used it a lot.

also, anyone get the "disk not ejected properly" glitch? it renders my flash drives useless, and i don't think you can fix it.

but they still mount on my 10.5 iMac
