Hey GMG Community,
I've decided to stop paying for hosting for the GMG after the current cycle is up (May 2015). I'll happily make backups of the entire site and transfer it to whoever wants to maintain it. Unfortunately I just don't need the Dreamhost account anymore and can't justify paying $100/year for something I don't need.
Please email me if you want to take over the site. We have plenty of time between now and May 2015, so no rush.

Thank you for hosting, Tim. The GMG is an awesome place where friendships have been forged and creative goals have been accomplished - and you made it possible for all these years. I didn't know you were paying $100 every year by yourself... that was very generous. Thanks.

Yeah, that's... incredible, actually. It seems we've always had good quality hosting for big files like games and images but I didn't know it was this expensive.
Whatever happens, I just hope we can all stay in contact because this has always been a great little community. ;)

Yeah, it's true. The GMG has supported me in all of my (admittedly failed) projects. It's really a great group, but it doesn't really warrant it's own forum...

When Mike resumes development of SC, he'll probably bring back the SNET Plaza. So there's that.

I hope so. I haven't ever found a site quite like this one. TIGSource has their indie game dev forum but it's got so many people that I could hardly get noticed. The Cavestory.org forum has a game dev section but none of you guys are there. :1

Hosting doesn't need to be that expensive. You can get decent plans w/ domain name for 60-70 bucks or even less, provided you look in the right spots. I'm guessing Tim's hosting was slightly pricier because he paid for a plan that allowed him to host multiple sites.
I guess I should have a plan in case I need to migrate my GMG-hosted site somewhere. :-\

This site is very special. It helped me find programming and some pretty awesome like-minded people. Even if i don't check most of the time :P

The new GMG is coming along well. In the next week the beta will be online.
Posts will not be moved over. The whole site will be new. All the old things will be updated and integrated. The things I've worked on in the past.

Old posts won't be moved over? But that's a big part of the history of who we are. Will old posts be accessible some other way?

Okay, great. I was worried for a second that our mysterious history wouldn't be saved for generations of new GMGers. If we continue with recent trends, we'll have at least -7 members by 2020.

You may have noticed that the GMG is still up!
DreamHost has offered a deal of $5/mo for two years, and I decided to renew for one last time. This means that I have decided to extend GMG until May 2017. I think this community has been incredibly vibrant, and I'm excited to keep it alive for a couple more years.
