Title: hosting a mc server
Post by: GMG Kurt on October 23, 2011, 06:45:35 PM
hosting a mc server is actually quite annoying, and not really worth it, but times when u get to be a badass, dis everyone, and ban without repercussion. Thats the special times in life you remember :P

so these 2 hacking bastards come and grief my server, slow it down by placing all these drops on the ground, and then kill my brother. So I spoke through the server, trust me this is worth reading.

Forgive me, I'm a little lost. What happened?

so my friends gives the IP too these two guys. They drop stuff allover the ground, in concentrated areas, which slows down the game exponentially. Then they killed my brother. after that they teleported him back to them and killed him again, and again.
I got on a dissed the guy who did it (Noizetank) I de opped him, and then kicked him from the server. then the second person (HiiranaYuki) unbanned him, and re opted him (opping is like admin powers) then i tried it again, but they both blocked my bans, and kicks through hacking clients, so i had to shut down the server. And the whole time Noizetank pretended he only understood Spanish, not knowing who I was in real life. I know a friend of his, who later confirmed my suspicion he understood english completely.

They're slowing down the game messed up everyone else playing on the server, and almost caused my computer to shut down. Especially amazing because I set aside 5 GB of RAM for the server.
I still can't ban them because they're using hacking clients.

Aww.

There must be some way to safeguard.
What about IP bans? Or accessing their account info? Or possibly some way to programmatically or manually set the default powers.

What's your server? Can I be whitelisted?

yeah sure here's the IP

5.107.107.39

the only thing is it isn't always up. usually only after school hours. It's public I'm making it private this weekend, but even then the cracked clients can get through because they already know the IP

p.s. zoo you're op right now ;D your username is GrimZoo right?

Well if its just you doing it, its not really DDoS, its just DoS, and from a home internet connection to a server you are just DoSing yourself :p

How do you know I haven't seeded dormant executable code in windows pcs around the world?
Ones that at a whim I could flip on to DDOS any IP I wish...

Or perhaps.... you remember the SC Physics plugin? It was a hidden application that ran in the background. I could've added some extra code to make that store a little extra somethin somethin on your HD that executes on start up.

Yeah, fear me. I can turn your own computers against you.

Now that's the right way to DDOS. Secure, pretty much untraceable if you do it right, and sneaky. No one will know... until it's too late.

You don't NEED to own it to host.
If someone bought you a gift code, could you be persuaded?

Heck yeah, though I'd also be persuaded if they just sent me the server files and instructions on how to host.

P.S. My G4 can be dedicated and reliable, I'm thinking it'd just be kinda slow.
I could have my iMac host it when I'm not moving it around. Which would be considerably faster.
P.S.S. I'm not entirely sure how good my internet is for hosting, there's a possibility of a little lag. Here I'll do a speed test:

Server software, eh? No need for a minecraft account?
You are truly a nice person. Would this be a 24 hour thing?

That's good, if all it'll be doing is hosting the server

Yeah it'd be up 24/7.
There could be 2 different servers.
(1) iBook G4 - Reliable but a tad slow. On 24/7.
(2) iMac Intel - Unreliable but fast. On when I don't turn my computer off.

Or hmm. I think I could do something fancy. I could have the server files be stored on my external drive, and whenever my iMac is on, just host the server there, and whenever it's off host it on the G4.
That'd mean 1 server, on practically forever and much faster whenever running on my iMac.

Though I wouldn't mind having a Minecraft client so I could test the server firsthand...
