Title: Google Drive
Post by: Connors on January 18, 2014, 01:57:23 AM
Screw Microsoft Word.

 Google Drive:

 • Is Free
 • Runs in modern internet browsers (Linux compatible)
 • Has a fully functional word processor (which is perfectly fine for writing college papers)
 • Can read word docs (and it can sort of convert them but it can mess up the formatting)
 • Saves your work on the cloud. Automatically.
 • Works like a drop-box for backing up files.
 • Allows sharing of files
 • Includes neat collaboration features
 • Spreadsheets

The only drawback is it has bugs in Internet Explorer, so... wait why would you be using IE anyway?

I hear there's this thing, called Open Office, haven't tried it yet though.

I've been using Drive for two or three years now. It's really great for collaboration, as well as solo projects. Plus, if at any time your computer explodes while typing an essay or something, it's still there when you buy a new computer.

True dat. You can also use it to collaborate. Extricate, fornicate, masticate and I'm just writing words that rhyme.

And it absolutely destroys Dropbox in the way of storage. 15 GB for free. Can't complain about that.

Last time I checked, Dropbox offerred extra gigs of space if you refer new users to them... ugh. xD

Yeah, but even after you do their 12 trials of Heracles or whatever they still give you like 2 GB. And email you all the time until you unsubscribe. That's why I don't like dropbox.

I used Google Drive to collaborate with classmates on a project last semester.  It worked well.  Being able to work on a document at the same time as your buddy is really cool... and sometimes annoying, when he adds a page break and pushes your text onto the next page as you're trying to write it.  I've also used GD as a secondary back-up for personal files, but I encrypt those beforehand because I don't want Google / the NSA / black hats to look at them.
