I am looking for a good tile editor that works on OS X Tiger (10.5). I've tried a few that haven't been what I'm looking for, and the most promising one I found (http://mapeditor.org/) is only for Snow Leopard. I don't need a lot of features, just something that allows me to specify grid size and is easy to use.
Thanks in advance. :)

I use Graphics Converter (http://ftp://mirror.switch.ch/mirror/lemkesoft/gc66ub_english.dmg?__dado_stop=stop). Create a picture the size of a map and set the grid to the size of the tiles. Then copy, paste, and drag into the right spot.
Here's a tutorial I posted early on:

You don't have to make the txt files.

Graphics Converter is what I'm using now but I would rather not have to do all that dragging. ;D

I highly recommend Tiled... use the java version if you're not on Leopard (like me :P).
-
I tend to do things by hand due to not saving my work as separate files, but I use Tiled else-wise. It's perfectly simple.
-
I just downloaded Tiled and it's just what I needed. Thanks!

No, thank you for being a homebrew game designer in a time of too few homebrew game designers.
What's the game might I ask?
-
I don't know if "homebrew" is the right word for us. More like "inde."
-
Yeah, indie is cool too. :)
There's a sort of majesty to homebrew games that's hard to define, particularly RPGs; the thrill of entering a world filled with magic, monsters and mystery... all composed by the mind of a living breathing person somewhere else in the world. Not an industry professional, just some ordinary guy with ideas. He probably comes home from school/work tired and hungry, fixes himself something to eat, flicks though TV as as he eats it, then BAM! An idea pops into his head and he scribbles it onto a piece of paper with a mouthful of whatever it is he's eating.
That guy's got a story to tell; the RPG is just his chosen medium. It might only get played by half a dozen people, maybe none at all, but his story is out there, somewhere in the mists of existence. Just one more secret treasure. And who knows who might happen upon it by chance? And what will they think when they enter it?
EDIT:
I'd still love to do that GMG documentary.
-
I use Photoshop. I just set the tile size to whatever size i want and then i set the number of tiles cuts to one because they won't allow zero.
-
GMG Documentary. I can edit it. I just need everyone to record three things for me.
1. A short biography to a camera. Just about interests, who you are, etc.
2. Some footage of your creations and commentary.
3. A vlog-like 'day in my life' kind of thing.
-
Cool, I'm definitely up for it. :)

It's a secret until it becomes clear that I will actually finish it. :P

Same for me and my secret project.

But Silver knows, right? ;D (unless it's something else)

yea, i have to admit i do look foward to peoples homebrew games more than industry games, industry games usually follow a formula, while homebrew games are more personal and i dont know what to expect. i havent had any interest in console games in a long time, making the game just the way i want it is more exciting for me, and i have something to show for my time. but i still watch current game reviews on the internet to see where the industry is at

lol, swamp always does this! he'll "edit" it, he just needs everyone else to make it.
-
Though you must know, Swamp can't make a biography of your or my life. Then it wouldn't be a biography now would it?

;D I couldn't help laughing. That's what makes Swamp awesome though. Dedication to a field of interest.

Well sure it would. People write biographies for other people all the time. ;)
-
Ah, got biography and autobiography mixed up.

Woh... you've got almost as many posts as me! :D Now that's impressive posting.

Lmao EQ, I can't film you guys going about your own lives, due to the fact that you are all over the world.
I'll film myself, of course, but I'll need everyone's parts to make a whole.
That's what a documentary is, anyway. An exposition on a snippet of life meant to prove a point. :p
