70 Ways to make you a better Programmer
« on: November 21, 2009, 05:11:15 PM »
Hey guys, recently I went on Google to help me with a motivational problem but found an amazing site that was able to span it's resourcefulness to all corners of your life.
Site: http://www.mindpowernews.com/BrainPower.htm

It's so exciting, I'm now following it. Listening to Mozart(Like it recommends), ate a small square of chocolate, am sitting straight, doing random math in my head, and saying verbal motivational statements.
This will help you notice new patterns, recognize, retain memory, and overall boost your brain power. I'm using it to help me with homework but do plan on letting it reach over to programming when I have time for it.
Read through each tip, you'll find it very interesting.

yea i heard listening to classical music is supposed to help you study better which is somewhat true, but i think ANY music without lyrics will help you study better,  i used to listen to ambient when i programmed. it occupies your mind without distracting you from what your doing

for motivation you just have to have a good imagination, which will lead to a good idea, and depending on how good the idea is determines how much motivation you have to make it a reality.

I'll agree with that, I absolutely love listening to instrumental music.

I think one of the tips on the list is to try to stay away from caffeine...

Only partially correct, the tip says that long term usage has horrible effects though for short term right before a math test will improve alertness and such.

Yup, I do that all the time. When I was learning martial arts forms with the cane I carried one everywhere, literally. To the shops, to friends' houses and even just on car journeys!

The bo staff took longer to learn, as it's harder to bring a 6ft polearm everywhere. ;D

Wait so you would just be out in public, fighting with a cane? Did people take you as a street performer and give you money?

I never fight. Only train.

I practiced various handling techniques as I walked down streets and such. Generally people would eye the cane and look at me oddly, and teenagers would occasionally laugh or jeer (although I noticed only when they were on the other side of the street) but nothing much.

I remember one woman shifted her purse to the farther away hand before passing me by. ;D
