OS X Snow Leopard
« on: September 01, 2009, 12:38:18 PM »
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard.

It's so awesome it's recommendable.

The new Quicktime has screen capture mode, which has made Snapz Pro X obsolete (yay!)

Apple has dropped Rosetta down to an optional install. PPC is on its way to the grave.

Exposé looks more user friendly, although I'm not fond of the new format.
Spaces is now more than just a blink and you're onto the next screen.

The computer boots and shuts down in less than 30 seconds (maybe it was the clean install but who cares?!)

To top it all off, I saved 9GB in terms of hard disk space upon installing this baby! :D

I'd like to write more but right now I just want to click like hell and see everything. XD

*poof*

Sounds awesome indeed, especially screen capturing with Quicktime! I still haven't bought myself a computer since the old one died, but I reckon I'll be able to afford one around Christmas. Can't wait for SL!

Sounds cool... I need to format this drive, something is taking up 140 gigabytes of space.

Oh, wait. That would be my home folder... ahem, carry on people, nothing to see here...

A Snow Leopard family pack is en route to my house. Should arrive in a few days. So exciting!

Already have it installed on my MacBook Pro. Saved 4GB of space, then used XSlimmer to free up an additional 300MB. I'm loving it it a lot, everything is sooo much faster

So far my only gripes are Flash running incredibly slow at times and some 3D games getting messed up somehow after using Exposé.

Nothing that can't be fixed I hope.

I ordered a new iMac on Thursday from Apple's web site. I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

The new iMacs look amazing... I have an older intel iMac and it works better than anything I've ever used. I bet you'll be able to bring Gm to all new levels with it.

About flash slowness, I read an article that Snow Leopard installs a lower flash version. I just upgraded mine, hopefully it will fix any problems.

Yeah. I should be able to create a universal binary GM. From what I read it sounds like if I compile code with 10.6 then the application won't run on anything older than 10.4, so it looks like GameMaker 4.0 will require at least 10.4. That's kind of good in a way because I can use some newer stuff without trying to find ways to make it work on 10.3.

I really needed a new computer. My current iMac is a 500mhz G3 running OS X 10.39. I bought it way back in January, 2001. The OS it came with was 9.04. The new iMac is 2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. I got the 20" monitor because I thought the 24" was a bit too large... and it was $300 more.

Wow, hard to believe that you've been using it for all these years...

Hey guys, I tested QuickTime's new screen recording feature:
Here it is.
Huge screen size, best quality, 2 minutes, and only 20.5 mb.

Dunno it says I have version 10 installed, which is the latest.

brb.

A reinstall didn't work, compatibility issue? My iMac? *shrugs*

EDIT: Well, Apple did ship an older version of Flash, though the update concerns security issues rather than speed or anything else. :/

Still waiting for my iMac to arrive. The FedEx site says September 12. The first thing I'm going to do is compile GameMaker 4 to a universal app. The 2nd thing I'm going to do is make a QT movie of me running GM 4.  Can't wait.
