December 2011

I got one! How about we all try to make a game with NO IMPORTED GRAPHICS.
You must use only text/ASCII art and the built in drawing commands. It'll be fun! If you wanted to do any kind of collisions you might be doing a lot from scratch because no sprites are allowed.
Probably only Silver Creator and Game Maker. I can't use TNT Basic anymore and no one else really knows it so...

Any takers? Thoughts on how to improve upon this?

I might be able to do this after the 16th. Cause that's when I finish finals. Actually, I'm going to have a boatload of free time on Christmas break. :D

Perfect time for working on the HTML5 GameMaker!

Well whichever one you want to work on.* :)

I think I'm going to see what I can do with this right now cause it's a SNOW DAY! :D ...Or I could go call my friends and DO something. Wait, I know! I'll do both.

Man it feels so cool when you're tweaking things and then suddenly one of them actually makes it work! :D

It's just me barely starting with a new tile engine, but it only used paint commands. 0's are DRAWRECT, 1's are FILLRECT. It will update on it's own since painted shapes aren't persistent. I think I could have some fun with this style!
I can also make functions like DRAWPLAYER that make a pattern, that's my plan.

It's great! I don't have to use MOVESPRITE or anything because the canvas resets.
Plus I can make a size variable and change the size of grid squares. The levels can be fewer squares and larger tiles or vice versa depending on level size.

But first I must conquer the Silver Creator string commands.  [smiley=what2.gif]

I just started a thread for my HTML5/Javascript maze generator.  That might count since it's drawn entirely using rectangles and circles.   http://charlo.gamemakersgarage.com/games/mazegen.php

The sokoban (*edit not sudoku*) thing looks cool, Connors!  Hope you finish it.   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Thanks! And once again, I changed the name, because I meant to make it Sokoban. I don't know how I got the name mixed up. >.>

That gives me an idea.  I've been developing a Scorched Earth clone in SC for a few weeks now.  Perhaps I should make a winter version.  The objective would be to bury your opponents in snow, rather than blow them up.  Hmm...

This is waaay easier than drawing sprites... Yet it was really annoying. ^-^
But only because I had issues with replacing parts of strings and that would have come up anyways.
Check out the replacefield function I mean method it's useful.

The circle's controlled with the arrow keys!
