New Game: GM Mastermind
« on: April 22, 2010, 11:43:30 AM »
GM Mastermind is a clone of the popular board game Mastermind.  The computer sets a code and you need to break it.  If you don't know the rules you can check out the Wikipedia page:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastermind_%28board_game%29

I didn't implement an AI so it could guess your codes since I wanted this to be a simple game that I could release quickly.  I think anything past the simple functionality I have in this game would have to be done in something other than GameMaker.  :P

This game took me about a week to make from beginning to end.  GM's sprite limitations prevented me from adding a few things I wanted to, but it's still a fun little game.  In the original Mastermind, the code was allowed to repeat colors, but to simplify things I made it so colors aren't repeated and your guess isn't even allowed to duplicate colors.

The music is composed by me in Garageband.  I tried to do it in the "spacesynth" style with a bouncy lead synth and driving bassline.

Here are some screens:

Enjoy!

FYI Funny coincidence : an SDL-based Mastermind game was also recently released. It was uploaded to the SDL website early April 2010.

Looking forward to trying out that new GM game  :)

EDIT: Nice job ! This is the first time I try out a GM game so new (it was made only a few hours ago)

Wow, awesome game Charlo! I haven't won it yet, as I'm used to the kiddy rules where you can place duplicates. ;D

Actually I think the ability to place duplicates makes it harder.  With no duplicates, there are fewer possibities (1440 vs. 5184 if my math is right).

I just beat it (once) I also have a difficult time understanding the kind where you can place nothing and/or duplicates. So I am used to kind where you can't.

I must be dreaming (wake up me wake up) How could this have happened. Tireas' cry when he found his computer fallen over in his chair with it's screen shattered.

Cool, although if you could change the author to say "Charlo" instead of my full name that would be great.   ;D

Also, if somebody could add it to the downloads page of this site I would be grateful.  :)

What's wrong with your full name?

There's already over 3,500 results, and I doubt most of them are even related to you.
