Heres what we should do:

1. Decide everyone's positions (programmers, artists, ect.)

2. decide what type of game to make

3. finish the website

4. make a forum

5. start the project

EDIT - also, we should get a sense of what experience everyone has... like I don't even have game maker, and I bet some of you game maker people have never used silver creator.

That's a great plan. We should get started on it right away.

Good idea- maybe put our real names out there, a little bio page for each of the people in the company, that would be cool.

Like First Name "Alias" Last Name/Initial.

Great idea...  ...Your name is Alias?

Quote
Yeah, we can do something like:

Name-

Location-

Position-

Skills-

Interests-

Name- Gandolf (Matt)

Location- Kansas, U.S.A

Position- Member of the Eclipse (Game/Studio/Productions?) company.

Skills- Network, Gm, Sc, Tnt, Obj-C, Vb.net, Vb6, VbScript, learning Python programming.

Interests- Networking, Mmo/Orpg making.

Quote
Since we are spilt between SC and GM, maybe we should use Xcode or TNTbasic?

Something easy would be best. I'm thinking of making the game "Fifteen" in Gm or Sc. Also I can make simple apps in Xcode, but the NSCommands really fry my brain.

Quote
I kind of hate TNT... raise your hand if you have any xcode game programming experience.

*Raises Hand* I have a bit. Not enough to really make any sort of game except for really simple games that probably won't catch the attention of any player.

Yeah. A simple game should be set first. Perhaps we should make this game:

I think that we should do this: http://sol.gfxile.net/gp/index.html

Its a complete introduction to using the SDL library in C/C++, and at the end it has a full tutorial for making a simple game.

SDL is ridiculously easy to set up in xcode as well.

Oooooh...  "Drools"

This is extremely perfect. I will love working with this, though I don't think it is even near suitable for making the company's first game.

We should try something easier with Gm or Sc and work our way up.

Might a humble forum rogue voice his thoughts?

I suggest that if you truly are gonna attempt a group project, (and by that I mean attempt to finish one, not just start one) that you start with an arcader. A simple RPG would be cool, but every time an RPG is attempted it's never kept simple. Pretty much any old idea can be turned into an arcader, so once you have someone to invent one, another person to draw a few graphics and another person to compose music, you should easily be able to make a game within a month. With the team assembled here there should be no problems.

Advice from a guy who's finished a few games. ;)

OK... but lets stick to my plan :P

1. decide everyone's position

does anyone here other than me not have game maker? because we need to decide which program we will be using.

Don't have Gm but can optimize the code enough to fit without having to buy it.

I have GM and have been programming in it for years. Ive programmed in SC, and its fairly easy for me to learn as its pretty much pseudocode.

I think we need to stick with our roots (GM/SC) for at least the first project.

my name is... alias.
nothing more lol. I can b a programmer and a graphic designer, but there is no way im doing boring game graphics.

Now, what do u want me to do for the website?!?!

boring game graphics.!
I would hope that the graphics in our games won't be boring ...

Make a design for a site with these pages: Home, Projects, Member Bios, Downloads, and forum.

Make it look like that design that you posted earlier, that was great :)

That is the problem with programming, it is called "Scope Creep"

Here is an example (From some website):
A map
A 3D map
A 3D map that you can fly through

First one is simple, then UM......

I will see if I can find the website.

Mist
EDIT: Scope Creep is a problem for me BIGTIME, Here you go: http://www.kevinwilliampang.com/post/Top-10-Things-That-Annoy-Programmers.aspx

That "Scope Creep" thing is never really a problem for me... generally when I start a project I make the idea really awesome and undoable, and then cut things out as I go.

I am the exact opposite.

Take GF for example.
Originally I was going to make something simple but now I want to make some huge thing that would take forever to explain, I can't imagine how long it would take to document it :P
