Escape Velocity: GM

Being a fan of the Escape Velocity series, i got a little bored on a rainy afternoon and tried to remake it with GM. I knew it wasnt going to be very accurate, but here you are.

BTW its just and DEMO of the engine im working on.

I still need to add the mission/tradng stuff to the planet along with the shipyard and outfits. As well as incorperate NPCs with simple AI (trader/pirate/Government) and a combat engine (which i have almost finished) then i can start building the game world.



Instructions:
Hold down the "1" key and it will take you back to the planet if you get lost

Press "b" to break

Arrow keys are for navigation

Press "L" to land on the planet.

No planet in it but it gots everything else including a stop on the endless brakes of a triangle.

That is way slow, i think its the stars since it uses almost the same amount of code. (without a planet btw). Ill see if stars can be achieved without any slowdown.

I'd guess the most efficient way to have stars would be to include them in the planet image. It would be an overall background image instead of just the planet, that way the stars and whatever else you have in the background all move together (breaking them into separate elements, however, would cause a lot of slow down, I'd think). Are you using SPRITECOLLIDE for the planet? I'm guessing that's why you don't have any stars.

Tireas, the speed of yours might have to do with the size of the superstar.gif. It's 208k, you should be able to compress it to a fraction of that, even if you have to convert it to a jpg or a png.
