Code Exchange Section?
« on: May 07, 2009, 08:40:02 PM »
Maybe it would be a good idea to have a section where people can share their code snippets to help other game developers. It would help build a nice library of open source code to aid new developers into making their first game.

That'd be great. :D I'd post all my Sc sources before I accidentally erase them from my hard drive. I'd also post a few Vb.net sources and Java sources.

I once upon a time made Programmer's Block.... But it kinda sucked.

You can look at it here: http://redrasor.com/pblock/

If you want me to fix it up, i can try

Where's SilverCreator?
I must be dreaming (wake up me wake up) How could this have happened. Tireas' cry when he found his computer fallen over in his chair with it's screen shattered.

The Articles & Tutorials section is a good place to post source code. It has a number of open source resources such as engines, snippets and even some of Eq's complete games.

I think Ghost's busy at the moment, but perhaps some time in the future the Articles & Tutorials section could be split into two separate Tutorials and Source Code sections.

Yeah thats pretty cool Mistron. However I still think it would be cool to have a section right on the forums here. Easy enough to organize, you just have to tag topic with language like [SilverCreator]RPG Engine, [Applescript]cURL example, etc.

@silverwind - ah ok, thanks

Wow Mistron, that programmer's block is actually very cool. Just added two small Java examples and I love all the features it has and the way it looks. It'd be cool if you could give this to Ghost so he could use this to make the source section. Though there is a bug when your code is a bit long when you're viewing it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll think about the best way to implement it this weekend-- I'm favoring Hendo's idea.

Thanks ghost. The good thing about making a forum section is that the code can be openly discussed and improved upon.
