@Xiphos: I love indie music. I guess I'm just a hipster and heart. We should collaborate on a script sometime.

Can't wait for Uncharted 2. Recently replaying the 2nd.

Swamp: I'm excited for the latest Uncharted too! Except I don't actually own any of them, I just play them at my friend's.

Well stated!  Kinda gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

@Swamp:  I totally remember your Tetraeon project!  It seemed like you were having a lot of success with it.  What happened to it?

The GMG is one of a few forums that have been a huge part of my life. My internet presence started on HaloMods (I was there... I guess from 2006 to 2007). In 2006 everyone in the Halo mac community was starting their own "modding teams," so of course I hopped on the bandwagon, started the WHMT which picked up in 2007. Mac modding died in 2008, so my interests switched to making games. I must have spent months trying out different development tools, secretly hoping that one of them would magically create a game for me. I remember passing through Al's site and deciding that GameMaker wasn't powerful enough (all I saw was that plane shooting demo!). Eventually I found SC, started reading the code for classic demos like Eq's RPG engine and some point and click shooter. I worshipped Equanox and the rest of the SC old guard. Eventually I joined the GMG to brag about the RPG I thought I was making (I think that is a phase we all go through).

Hi there, my online alias is Telstar but my real name is James as many of you know. I live in the United Kingdom in the middle of nowhere.

I go to a public FE college, studying for a BTEC in IT and Media. I'm a student representative in the college's Student Association (I was also the only person in the college to attend the national demonstration against budget cuts to education and other public services - also one of the few who saw the Millbank riot develop which I fully approve of and am excited to be in a generation that might actually change something for once). I plan on going to Westminster university to study a software engineering degree and then hopefully I'll start a business called NuAge Computing (which I am already in the process of registering), selling a viable alternative to the Mac (hopefully in the future there'll be three options; PC, Mac and NuAge :) )

I work part time as a projectionist in a local independent theatre and cinema. My hobbies include technology, photography, poetry, socialist and democratic politics, vintage tech, journalism, tobacco blending and drinking tea (obviously). My musical tastes are eclectic (I like a bit of everything, really - rock, jazz, experimental electronic, minimal, acid house, goth, a tiny bit of metal, reggae, political hip hop, classical blah blah blah) but my favourite band of all time (been listening to them for 10 years and still haven't got bored) is Add N to (X). My favourite film of all time has to be Twelve Monkeys. My favourite book is The Catcher in the Rye.

As far as my programming work is concerned, I was never really any good at making games and didn't release the stuff I made on GameMaker when I was a lot younger. I've been frequenting the scene since about 2003 and only released one game, which was called Terrorists (which I can't find anymore :( ). I planned another game called Cyberdelia, but that never got very far.

I make a lot of software in Realbasic. One of these applications was SimpleCard, a GM/SC type clone with an emphasis on extreme simplicity. Redd helped me make it and he's awesome for that reason ;D

Currently I'm working on a workgroup server type application, which is designed to be totally portable. It's hit some design issues mid-development, to the point that it may need totally stripping down and restarting (I combined the function of server and client in the same program - which works for a while, but it's so complicated that it has become totally unmanageable).

That's all I have to say, a full pamphlet is available from J. Stafford Publishing for £20 each :)

yea, makeing a game is a fun hobby but its also difficult and time consuming, if you have a job or school its unlikley youll complete anything more advanced than the original rpg neo from 1998, and im talking: no inventory, one enemy per area, simple turn based game.  and it can still be hard comeing up with original content like characters, story, enemies, and levels. its better to have fun with it and complete something simple that everyone can play, and by then you have a solid engine you can add features too.

I was just reading about this in the Times, and the first thing that I thought of was "I bet Telstar is all over that!"

Awesome! Don't let the bastards grind you down!

Oh, we won't. The Liberals had plans to make a U-turn on their education policy two months before the general election - this was discovered today, and a lot of people are angry. I'm forcing the Student Association to march down to the Lib Dem offices in town and demand some answers.

Here's some pictures for your viewing pleasure of the march and the riot (some of them are from my friend's camera, whilst others are from my mother's camera).

(sorry for taking up so much of the page!)

Those pictures look incredibly pro, awesome!

Yeah from what I read it seems like the liberals are being hypocritical... sure, it's a coalition government, but that doesn't mean they can totally throw their core values out the window.

I always read about the French rioting for this and that; it's cool to see the Brits standing up as well.

Yeah, pretty much everyone I've spoken to is seriously annoyed with the coalition, especially the deputy prime minister who tried to cater to the student vote with his manifesto promises. His campaign video looks laughable now, explaining how Labour and the Conservatives made election promises and how we're all dissapointed and that he can help restore faith in politics... hah!

I sense that the coalition's days are numbered. Labour hasn't done anything to help. Instead, the unions are starting to grow a pair for the first time since the last tory government, the students, socialists and anarchists are declaring class war...and the revolution will not be televised, rather the revolution will be tweeted ;)
