Change of OS...
« on: October 18, 2009, 02:16:31 PM »
I'm probably going to stop using Mac OS as my primary OS from now on.

I'm not moving to Windows or Linux, my new OS is now BeOS (and maybe Haiku in the future).

Why? I'm planning on building a useable PC out of my old Compaq server. I can get myself a new computer with a very light OS (total install is ~700mb) that isn't as buggy as Whendoes or as incompatible and useless as Ubuntu or something along those lines. I dunno, I kind of enjoy hunting down software, the community's great, the OS is very fast, very stable, and comes without the memory hungry eye candy... It's perfect.

So where does this leave my place in the Mac development world? Same place as before - I'll still be developing software for the Mac as well as providing updates and new applications.

For now, I'm going to be buying hardware for my future computer. The list is long...
1x P3 Processor + power card for Proliant 1600
1x CD-R drive
1x DVD drive
1x SCSI hard disk
1x SCSI disk controller PCI card
1x Graphics card (currently using Be with a VESA driver - it works, but I want the full benefits of having a dedicated and supported graphics card)
1x Sound card
1x USB PCI card
1x Ethernet card
and a few extra bits..

Yes, it's a long list, but I think I can pick most of it up for free or maybe £50 if I'm unlucky. Maybe if I'm really unlucky, it won't work at all and I'll stick to using Mac. Either way, just thought I'd give you all the heads up :)
