The rest mechanic is a little silly, you just keep clicking until your health is back to full.

From what I've seen so far the map is huge! I definitely need to put more time into this, whenever I wander near the ninja gang I get destroyed. Definitely unfinished, but looking good so far.

resting is a last resort, if you have no money or want to save money then the penalty is you have to keep clicking rest and avoid police. later in the game when your hp gets very high and you get more money flow you wont need rest anymore, its kind of a buffer to fall back on.

you have to use strategy and build your fight ability and equipment by fighting weak npcs like civilians and rats before taking on stronger enemies, and also find items like briefcases and bandaids. its challenging but the original was much harder.

Oh OK that's why I failed. You get arrested for loitering but not for killing civilians.

i was hacking the original gangwars and i used sc to interpret the map coding and then used paint commands to display the entire map and heres what the original city map from 1988 looked like, i labeled eveyrthing from my memory. its very "blocky" which made it so hard to tell where you were cause every cross section looks the same from a 7x7 view. i tryed to add variety in my map design to  avoid that problem

so i think ill add this feature as a map viewing option in my remake

That was really fun. I accidentally blew up the shop when I first got dynamite.
I must be dreaming (wake up me wake up) How could this have happened. Tireas' cry when he found his computer fallen over in his chair with it's screen shattered.

major update

added the second city with new enemies, and some new armor and weapons.  i had to restructure alot of the code to except the new city and save alot more data so your old saves wont work

someone else also did a remake  of gangwars, in java. its good, i just dont really like the 3d  dungeon parts. ide be interested in hearing what people think is the better version, sc vs java.

for some reason i can only get 2.0 to work on my computer. and i want so bad to play 1.0 which has the original cities. it launches then quits imedietly, let me know if it works for you. how can i get it to work?

I thought you were the creator of GangWars. Who made it then?

like it says on the title screen chris and tony doerr, they made it in microsoft quickbasic back in 1988, i first played it in 95. its insanly difficult, much harder than my version. the hardest part is getting started. but once you get past the difficulty its really rewarding.

the original tile set looked like this. accept for the desk, the original allowed you to save anywhere but saving and loading on a mac classic at the time took like 30 seconds. i added the desk save marker to not make it so easy for people to abuse stealing

for some reason there were robots and driods in the second city
