docx?

how do i open a docx file? i tryed to force open it in preview and it doesnt work but it shows a preview of it in the finder

Docx is a text file, try TextEdit.

If you have an old word search ".xml converter" and get the appropriate one for your current word. ('04, '03)

docx is used by Microsoft Office 2007 and 2008.
you can download some free equivalent such as open office and open it with that.

open office wont run or open the file, it opens X11 (?) when i drag the file to it

X11 is a window engine that is usually used in Linux.
It is NOT an emulation, it just doesn't use Cocoa.

You might try iWork:

If you just want to read it, you could also select the icon and press the spacebar on 10.5 or 10.6 to open a Quick Look view.
