I came across this guy's blog a few weeks back and meant to post a link to it, but I forgot. Here it is anyway:

He's a web app programmer who's made some pretty awesome JavaScript games in his spare time, and currently he's tinkering with the design of a grid based RPG adventure. I love his map engine, but I think I'd find it too slow compared to the "hands on" way. He used two arrays for grid mapping: one for collision classes and another for sprites.

It could just be me, but his map editor ran really slowly.

It didn't
run
slow for me, but I think it's a slow way to develop in general. I've gotten really fast at typing zeros and ones.
