single vs dual processors?

whats the difference or advantage to  dual processors. is a dual 1.2ghz equal to a single 3ghz?

When running multi-threaded applications on a G4, a single 1 GHz would be equivalent to something like a dual 600 MHz. There is some loss because of the overhead of having two processors.
