PROJECT 64!!!!!
« on: October 17, 2013, 07:27:08 PM »
YAY! Emulator time again, and this time it's Project 64, the N64 emulator.

It has controller support and audio syncing and good compatibility so far. It's impossible to play SF64 with a 360 controller, but I can't blame the emulator for that. Some games feel really good with a newer controller.

The textures look horrible in the emulator though, because all the polygons are very well defined and crisp.

It runs at like 70 FPS for me, so it should be fine on any newish computer. Nothing near as hard to run as Dolphin.

That is all. If you have parallels or WINE or something, try to use P64, it's great. If you don't, there's a Mac N64 emulator called SixtyForce, which I haven't tried.

I've used Project64.  I know what you mean about the controls.  There's no way to substitute the arrangement of A, B, and C buttons... you really need to have 6 buttons in 2 rows, which most controllers don't have.  If I had a suitable controller, I would play the heck out of Goldeneye and Ocarina of Time.

I set the second control stick to the C buttons, which works fine for camera control but for doing maneuvers in SF64? Nahh... They sell USB N64 controllers though

SixtyForce worked pretty well, although you have to pay to unlock some features.

I think when I tried SF it locked the save functions unless you paid which was pretty terrible. I don't know if it still does.

Uhh... paid emulation? Isn't that illegal?

Oh wow... Maybe that's why they call it a "Donation"?

I mean, emulation is kind of a grey area of legality. Nintendo isn't making money off N64 games anymore, so it's not just like piracy, but if some company that ISN'T nintendo wants you to pay to emulate Nintendo's games...
