Title screens
« on: March 11, 2011, 10:25:09 PM »
I've noticed some GM games have really awesome title screens, like quest of magic. I was wondering, what photoshop effects make a good main menu picture out of just text and a picture.
Silverwind seems to like lense-flare but how do you do that in photoshop (elements)
thanks

I know if you right-click a layer in the layers window you can go to "Blending Options" and there's good automatic effects, then you can just do that to the text.

he did it frame by frame useing cards to animate it, it makes the game 10 times bigger than it needs to be. the lense flare and title screen animations are like 50 individual cards

That can't be right. I doubt GM flips cards fast enough to make a smooth movie.

They can, And I know it. Check the QOM source. I've made plenty of animations in GM, but I think it may be easier using sprites.

Same thing with Epicus, lots of animations, all flipped through. Unfortunately I found it is the only way to have a seemless integrated movie, as quicktime tears you away from the game.

How do you mean? What's bad about QuickTime in this case?

There's nothing wrong with the movie command though, I find it very useful. If used correctly it can be good for cutscenes and intro movies. But as for menu screens, I don't think you could click the buttons while the movie played. I've always made my menus still pictures.
