The early versions of OS X had classic mode, which allowed you to run OS 9 applications.  I think the program SheepShaver now duplicates that functionality.

Yes, but SheepShaver can be complicated to set up and is buggy

A while back I posted a download of SheepShaver where all you had to do was unpackage and run.

I remember playing Lode Runner TLR and all kinds of cool games on OS 7... I still have The Incredible Machine sitting around. XD
And Glider Pro. I had fun with Glider Pro.

Even off discs? I'm trying to see if I can run Fallout 1 and 2 on my mac, as the ones from 1997? are cheaper then the OSX ones from 2002.

There are osx versions of the Fallout games.

I remember running Pangea's old games in classic on my old power pc mac :)

I know, but they run close to retail price on amazon. i'd rather pay 5$ for an older copy.

My mac stil has the actual classic mode. We used to use it a lot, too. It usually runs CDs and such but there's certain ganes that won't work so easily. (I really want to play Duke Nukem :( )

if you like duke you should check the high res pack

i think its only for windows, but its a complete remake of duke nukem 3d with 3d rendered enemies and bosses and weapons and pick ups, theres no 2d sprites, and everything uses high resolution textures, its amazing

OH MAN.  The music from the first level of Bugdom is probably the single most nostalgic thing I can recall.  And the sound of nuts being broken and clovers being picked up...*single stoic tear*

Pangeas games were so fun!
I liked Cro-Mag Rally a lot.
I got, like, all of their mac games except Billy Frontier.
I still like the original Bugdom though.

SheepShaver will play games off discs, but it's so buggy.

If you have a PowerPC Mac (like a G5), you can use Tiger 10.4 with the Classic Environment - many games work in it. If you have an even older PPC Mac, it will probably boot OS 9 natively. I keep a dual boot on my G5 so I can boot Tiger now and then. I also have a dedicated OS 9 machine, a G4 Sawtooth upgraded to a 1.8 GHz G4 chip.
