The GameMaker Wikipedia page is in danger of deletion. I got around it by adding a couple of links, but it's only a matter of time before someone does another sweep.
If you think it's important to document GameMaker for public consumption (and I for one think it's always valuable to broaden the public's perspective), someone needs to beef up the article. Here it is now:

What it needs, to survive:
1) More links to third-party publications that talk about the software; on a quick Google I couldn't turn up much, but there must be articles out there somewhere. If you freelance for an indie game journal, now might be the time to whip up a feature on your favorite Mac-based game creation system.
2) More details. Right now it's basically a stub. Add a section that details how the thing works, and what makes it distinctive.
3) Some history. Compare GameMaker to other game creation systems before, contemporary with, and after it hit the market. Is there anything revolutionary or notable that you can somehow substantiate? Has it had any consequence on the Mac dev scene? Can you explain, and back that up?

I wrote that more or less on my own, pretty much to ensure that the software had a public face that would not be too easy for the Wikipedia bonfire squad to wipe away. Since that page went up, awareness of RSD Game-Maker has gone way up -- because it has become visible, and easy for the lay reader to wrap his or her head around.
I think it's worth hanging onto this article, as this is the most public exposure that GameMaker seems to have at the moment. People do stumble across the page, and they wonder what sets this GCS apart from all of the others. Make a case for it, and let it claim its piece of posterity.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I didn't even know there was a Wikipedia page. Maybe we could beef it up by adding links to some games? As a SilverCreator guy I don't really know the ancient history of GM but surely someone here does.
I think that GM represents an important era in indie game history, it should be preserved!

Well, if we base it on the article for RSD Game Maker it might work to have a similar layout of sections. I'm not familiar with the program, unfortunately, or I might start writing something on the layout and various capabilities and limitations. I suggest using QoM as a good example of clever use of cards and workarounds for certain limitations, since it has characters on a 2D grid of tiles and uses a static background image for each map to conserve sprites.
A release history would also make sense, if that's not too hard to find information on.

1) There was probably an article in MacAddict at some point. Al surely knows and probably collected all of that.
2) I could probably do that.
3) GM was card-based and its most notable contemporary was HyperCard. I thought of GM as a less-expensive alternative specifically oriented towards game-making, although I don't remember if it was actually pitched that way. GM inspired SilverCreator.
Maybe we could beef it up by adding links to some games?
I can pick a few special games to use as examples on the wiki. I think we should probably try to get the authors' permission before we use their content, though... most of them are potentially embarrassing, and conversely, a few of them are good enough to be claimed as copyrighted IP.

Other thoughts:
The Wikipedia page mentions Steve Streza. It could also mention Jason Steele, the animator who's famous for Charlie the Unicorn. Jason's name on YouTube, "Secret Agent Bob," is a reference to a series of GM games that he made when he was a kid.
