Online game?
« on: March 04, 2011, 03:48:25 PM »
GMonline? What is this?  :o how come i've never heard of this  :o ?
Anyway, what does it do, and more importantly how do I download it. It's like a weird file type and my computer won't accept it.
It sounds as if I could make an online game with GM.

It can be downloaded from here:
http://www.mikerichardson.name/gmutils/GMOnlineCarbon.sit

It's compressed as a sit file (StuffIt). This was the old compression standard before Apple began using zip. I'll see if I can upload a zip of it.

EDIT: Try this:

I just reorganized the gmutils folder. All of the OS X versions are now in zip files.

http://mikerichardson.name/gmutils/

Here's what all of the programs do:

GMCarbonizerBeta.zip - this lets you convert old (Mac OS Classic) GM games into newer Carbon games, so that they will run on a new Mac.

GMOnlineCarbon.zip - create 2 player online games. also compatible with SilverCreator easy sockets, so an SC game can talk to a GM game.

GMOnlineServerOSX.zip - this was never really used by anyone. basically you would run this server 24/7 and then people using your game would be able to connect to the server to find other players for matchups. it was really cool and it works completely, but again no one really used it except for maybe one game by Jason Steele.

GMToolkitOSX.zip - This is the latest version of GM Toolkit, it should already be bundled with GM though

GMhttpCarbon.zip - this lets you download files from the internet. for example you could download an image and then display it in your game using IMAGEFILE.

I moved the Classic versions into a separate folder since no one probably needs those anymore. There's some older versions of GM Toolkit in the oldgmtoolkit folder in case there's a problem with the current one.

This looks fun to mess with. I remember seeing something on my computer called "Online Example" that used the grid navigation system, and like an online game you just threw in a username and you could run around two areas talking to your friends. I'm pretty sure silverwind must have made it, what with having the roguesoft tiles and sprites. Anyway, I don't remember downloading it but it was pretty cool. I can't wait to make a simple online chat game like that.

I updated the GM tools web page to include the new locations of Mike's utilities. GameMaker 3.9.94 was still bundled with an older version of GM Toolkit, so if you use that you should download the latest version.

You messed up my last name :P

You should link to Rezilla too since Intel Macs can't run ResEdit. Rezillla will run on Rosetta. http://sourceforge.net/projects/rezilla/files/rezilla/1.1/RezillaBin1.1.dmg/download

LOL. I typed it and copied and pasted, so they are all wrong. I'll fix it.

EDIT: Fixed and added Rezilla. Thanks.
