It'd be awesome if the Gmg could have a shoutbox so that all online could talk directly to one another in real time instead of waiting 20min-1hour waiting for a response.
Here's an example:

We can all just exchange MSN usernames :P
Mist (PS, I can get on MSN if you want)
-
The forum software I use makes it easy to add one... not sure about this site's though.

I think it'd be much better than using Msn because many of us visit the forum quite frequently. Having a shoutbox would mean we can talk to everyone all at once in real time without needing to open or download a separate application.
Here's a great example: http://www.devogeninteractive.com/forum/
Plus a bit of example text of some things people may say:
Today at 04:58:08 AM Devogen says: k me late 4 work, bback on soon
Today at 03:39:28 AM Infamous says: im around just surfing, looking at pixelart
Today at 02:16:16 AM Zetasis says: Sure is quite out there in G2D land.
Today at 02:11:53 AM Zetasis says: Add a couple more screen shots.
Today at 12:59:07 AM Zetasis says: Check this out if you guys got time.
October 28, 2009, 11:58:00 PM Mutantx says: yes green then orange
October 28, 2009, 11:49:43 PM Zetasis says: Err..Wait does it go green then orange or the other way around?
October 28, 2009, 11:49:17 PM Zetasis says: whoa! Im orange!

A place where we want to place text for everyone to see, but not worthy enough to make a post about it. Plus it's a bit more convenient.

We all have Macs and they all have this wonderful program called "iChat".
Get an AIM username, login, then just go to File > Go to Chat Room and enter the room "GMG".
-
I'm going to try that out later today, no idea there were actual chat rooms in iChat...
Though nevertheless, a shout box would be much more convenient as you don't have to open a separate application, and whatever you say will stick there for all to see. When in iChat you can talk to everyone at once but in order for everyone to see it, they all have to be online at once.
It wouldn't hurt to do a trial try to see if we like it.

good Idea I'll do that every now and then see if I see anyone on
-
I could always open a GMG Hotline server. Again. :P
-
I kinda like the idea of gmg chat room on ichat.
-
I'll tryout the GMG chat room later when I get home.
Though the idea of just having a mini chat room out of the way and conveniently ready to use as it loads automatically on the page when you check the forum... I think it sounds pretty good. It could be placed on the navigation bar to the left under "Submit Content".
Then again, who knows. It could clutter the forum and not be worth it.

I have no clue how to do this on a PC, but since it is using AIM I am assuming I just get the AIM client :P
Mist
EDIT: AIM name is MistrMist

This Gmg group chat in Aim/iChat is working really well. 3 people online and we're having a blast.
Great suggestion Mike. :)

I remember years ago on the old AOL GameMaker Forum - I had everyone on my buddy list, and if a ton of people were online I would often invite all of them to an impromptu chat. I remember a few that went on for hours.
-
I started using Skype awhile ago so that I could have face to face meetings with web clients. I'll have to get into iChat as well.
-
The iChat GMG chatroom was pretty great for a while, then it just got plain boring. We ran out of things to say. :P
We need something faster to speak with than the forum and a bit slower than face to face chat.
A shoutbox still fits that category, it'd be pretty nice to just try it out.

chatrooms are lame, although they probly need one for group projects, those topics are running into 20 pages
-
we can still use the iChat room GMG
-
Yeah, I'd still love to try that out sometime. Someone arrange a date.

Chatrooms are very inconvenient. Have to be all on at the same time... eventually you run out of things to say... then it's as if you're just waiting for someone to think of something to say.
Yeah, shout boxes on the other hand are like the offspring of a strange marriage between forums and chatrooms. What you say sticks, everyone can read it, you can talk to someone in real time or even over a period of time. People can be on whenever to get the memo, not all at the same time.
It's just convenient for time(doesn't have to be scheduled) and speed(posts are all in one spot and they are usually quite short).

I'm not good with planned events, usually I only plan... a day ahead. Unless there's something massive sticking out in my schedule. So if we plan anything, chances are I'll have something else land on that spot. Though if wanted, I could keep the Gmg chat infinitely open on my Mac so I can catch you guys whenever you're on.
