Title: REQUEST!
Post by: xXGuthanSoftwareXx on January 10, 2010, 12:51:53 PM
Hey I was wondering if anyone (you know the v6 grid) could get my a Gamemaker window size (full screen only picture) blank grid. With just the lines, and white spaces. Thank you to anyone who can do this :)

Under Game Options when starting a new project, choose the fourth default card layout and the second window style, then check Hide Desktop. If you only want some cards to have the fourth card layout, you can choose them individually under Card Script.

That is just cold.

Edit: And shouldn't this be in GameMaker Help?

Edit 2: And unnecessary, you didn't really write a detailed question or anything. I don't either, but I also don't call people retarded for saying the wrong answer to a question I barely asked at all.

I have no clue how to do it myself without the grid being screwed up.

Grid size is 44x44, use Gm's pixel counter to figure out the size of the window, graphics converter (tools page) has a grid editor.

also, do not flame, your post wasn't funny or cool. He was just trying to help and comments like that have no place in cold blood. We are a tight community here and flames like that will quickly lose your respect.

really though, if this person cant even make a grid i dout theyre capable of doing anything else. these types of questions are annoying, at least ask "how do i do this"

I'm not sure I understand the question Guthan, but if you're looking for a blank grid picture, is this any good:

I lol'd for like 20 minutes. It's the classic "I'm a super hacker who can blow up your PC and make awesome shit, but I don't because I'm not in the mood/ I have a life" argument.

I wish somebody would actually make a game to prove someone else wrong. There's a terrible drought of activity these days.

I remember a newcomer on the Mac GameMaker forums named FearlessHen who once criticised GM for its card limit, which was apparently far too small for his super gigantic RPG in the works. After relaying how one of the biggest RPG's ever made in GM was the Moon Fable demo and pointing out that it wasn't anywhere near 250 cards (thus suggesting that the limit would likely suffice his needs) he said "I'm gonna make a 250 card RPG just to prove you wrong." I was fairly depressed when he gave up after a 12 card "pick the right choice" game.

A 250 RPG would have been awesome!

I once made a 250 card game, and I needed more cards. But I was a noob programmer then and I could of made the game using about 25-35 cards.

the fact you cant make somehting as simple as a grid is proof enough you cant do anything.

relating to the noob 250+card games, someone recently complained about sc's 250 sprite limit claiming they needed more, but didnt say what for.

noobs, theyre everywhere

noones released anything in a while. im trying to put together the eqwanox game collection vol.2, i'll include some unreleased projects

WOAH! SC can have 250 sprites? Thats amazing. Imagine all the possibilities with that many sprites. But really what would you possibly need more than 250 sprites for?
Title: Re: REQUEST!
Post by: Gan on January 11, 2010, 02:50:17 PM
Truthfully a while back I had started making a tower defense game in Sc. It was around when Bloons Tower Defense 1 came out I believe. Inspired, I decided to try to create one where you defended your mac while viruses across the net came to destroy it. The big boss was a pc that was sending the viruses.
In that kind of game, sprites are like hotcakes, can't get enough of them. That's why I usually like to have no caps on such things as sprites.

Thanks Gandolf, totally agreed. I kinda wanna learn but yeah.
Also whoever thought about the super hacker thing... Equano is just a tard who thinks he's too good for noobs. I'm sure he's a good programmer but yeah back to Gandolf about teaching me, and stuff like that.

You sound so ignorant right there and calling people tards doesn't help either.

Another thing that doesn't really help right now, can someone please move this to gamemaker help. I hate thinking, oh great an announcement! Maybe somebody made a game! Then seeing another post in REQUEST.

I don't think that was ignorant. But whatever you say?
I mean like you, EquanoX, and Hampster are being kinda "evil" or however you say it without going into a swearing fit.

Gandolf, and Silver are being pwnage.
*sighs* I wish I could be unbanned from the old forum I used to be on... I code very fluent java. And now here everyone's just mean (except gandolf, and silver)

I coded GuthanScape 1,1.1,and 1.2 coded off of blankscape (completely blank basics source) I'll try, and find it on my Pc (no promises though :\\) But yeah Xiphos... Yeah... I guess you're on my nice list? I mean I'm nice to you, and said that your games, and stuff were good, and crap. Now you're just plain being mean (trying to say all of this without swearing or being mean cause you guys called me out for it even though you're meaner)

It's fine Xiphos... You're forgiven. By the way I just remembered what I did with GuthanScape (pissed off look) It got corrupted cause I miscompiled something, and I didn't make a backup,.. (stupid, stupid stupid me...) I'll keep looking for a backup copy.

Bah! You ain't seen nothing my friend. The GMG's arguments are sweet talk compared to some of the arguments I've been in. Why I remember this one guy from a PS3 forum who had an ongoing feud with me due to a simple misunderstanding on his part. It finally came to a head one day when he sent me a longwinded PM calling me every obscenity in the English language. I reported it to the moderation team who deemed it a bannable offence (if not prisonable), but I felt the PM was out of character and asked to speak with him first. I responded with a short PM wishing him well and hoped that nothing was stressing him off screen, and that's when he told me his story.

His brother had died the previous year and his parents no longer spoke to him after squandering his brother's life insurance money. On top of that he'd just lost his job and had two kids to support. He had every right to be stressed. Think how horrible it would've been if he'd been banned from his favourite forum too, but instead I sent him a calm reply and the whole matter was resolved. I also told him that Jesus loved him and promised to take care of him and we became great friends thereafter.

So the next time you're composing an angry response in an argument, keep in mind that the guy you're arguing with might be going through a rough time.

see, you are doing something wrong, youd have to use v6 and have the map as one sprite, cause the monsters on the screen have to follow the boudry code, so now you can have 200 monsters on screen, (i dont understand the 200 spells on screen, i would think you cast 1 spell at a time, but it doesnt matter cause this will probly go nowhere anyway, )

thats what i thought, itll be fun to play with, but the real thing is the draw commands, cause with that we can display life bars, damage values, stats, and dioulouge without even useing sprites, previously thats what i needed all the sprites for, now i dont know what ide do with 250 sprites

Truthfully Gunthan, one of my friends has a hosted runescape server just like you. They play with clients but the source of the Java game is sealed. If it wasn't there'd be massive amounts of duplicates of Runescape up upon the web.
Also you said the source was lost to miscompiling... What were you using to compile it and did you know that compiling can't destroy the source?

The site's looking better, good job Xiphos.

Now, hold on Eq. A bit ago before moving on from Sc I had no real idea what compiling, source, and all those technical terms were. So when someone mentioned them I'd go with the flow and act as if I did. Even today I'm still pretty bad with the terms.
I remember my first game... Battle to the Princess. Yes, made in the demo version of Gm, no coding, no click areas, 4 buttons, and a whole heck of a lot of cards. I made a movement nav out of just cards where you pressed a button, it'd flip a card and the character would move 1 to the right. Very, very cruddy.
Though we gotta build upwards, tough love can strengthen only when they get back up after the beating. When they don't, it destroys them. So if someone doesn't know something or does something incorrectly, we should correct them. In a manner that's not condescending but informing. This forum's here to help the newcomers, not fry them.

Hey Guthan, just a tip; keep moving. People may come along and beat you down, but if you get past their expectations, you get respect. Such as if someone comes along and says:

P.S. Looking back... Did you guys even know that I use to cap every letter before every word?
So It'd Look Sort Of Like This, And I Bet It'd Get Pretty Annoying Pretty Fast. Good Thing I Took The Criticism Of This Random Guy Who Confronted Me Face To Face About It So I Could...
type normally. Then this random guy and I became friends. Which he and I spent 2 years building an online game with a pre-built online game maker. No coding needed. Then I felt the urge to go higher so I moved back to Sc... so thinking back. I'm here, exactly where I want to be because I took the criticism of someone who is probably now my best online friend and am programming for the iPhone just because I took the advice of not capping every word instead of shoving it back in his face! (This is probably the time I should step off the soap box)

Bye guthan nice knowing you

kinda sad how you use a guy you don't know as a reason to leave a forum. Eq can be harsh but he always has good advice when you look past the flames.

... what happened here? I don't even know.
Here's an idea!
let's all stop being a**holes,
and start being human beings.
And if you're just naturally an a**hole of a human being, then please do us all a favor and get off of these forums.
Why fight on the internet? It's as if someone tossed a dollar into this topic and everyone is arguing over who rightfully deserves it.
Come ON! We're trying to make games, make music, do WHATEVER we do for fun, and share it with our fellow forum-goers.
I don't think we have any room for people who blow things out of proportion, attack others without any self-restraint, and senselessly insult and disagree constantly.
If you want to fight, do it over PM, because I seriously don't want to hear any of that crap. I come to these forums to talk to you guys, because you're all my friends. I don't come here to read 5-page flame wars, topics with terrible spelling and grammar, posts that never lead anywhere but to another argument.

Smarten up or leave. It's as simple as that.

Oh, and EQ - seriously, please learn to spell and use grammar properly, or you just come across as ignorant fool.

P.S who put a censor on this site? Seriously?
