iMac G5 is DDR DIMM.

Buy two if you want to max out at 2 GB. (look for a 2 GB kit to save money. if you're just buying one then that is the cheapest link I can find)

iMac Core 2 Duo is DDR2 SODIMM

You can only put ONE 2 GB into the iMac Core 2 Duo. ONLY ONE. The other one can be a 1 GB or less. Do not put two 2 GB in the computer. In other words - Max is 3 GB!!!

No - because they are high density. High density are junk memory they try to pass off for cheap. You must buy LOW density. Also do not buy anything that says "ECC" or "Server". If it says "Non-ECC" that's ok.

I checked eBay, it looks like the best deal is to just buy two single ones from the link I gave you earlier.

Yes that's fine. That will give you 2.5 GB which is pretty good, I doubt you'll need more than that. I do some crazy shît on my G5, it has 4 GB but I almost never use more than about 2.5 GB. Originally I just wanted 3 GB but the store sent me too many and just told me to keep them.

No. The "virtual memory" column is useless to us.

However, look at your "Page outs" and "Swap used". Those numbers should be 0. You need more memory! Once you add the extra memory your speed should increase dramatically. It will be almost like a new Mac (that's how slow swap is!)

As to the question, why does SilverCreator use so much memory - all the pictures and sprites in your game have to be loaded into RAM in an uncompressed format. (I believe the sounds are loaded in as compressed). A future version of SilverCreator will introduce a new bundle project format and improved memory management.

got the ram for my g5 and it runs much quicker, i noticed when i took out the old ram chips they were so hot i couldnt hold them for more than  a few seconds without burning myself, and the G5 processor houseing i couldnt touch for more than a second. i actually leave my imac ON all the time cause someone told me it lasts longer, and that shuting down or putting to sleep is wear on the HD, anyone know if thats true? cause it gets so hot, i feel i should shut it down, esspecially on these 90degree days we've been having

I've left every laptop I've ever owned on all the time and it always develops noticeable hardware problems a year on. The power lead frays at the end, the screen darkens and of course I had 3 HD crashes in a very short space of time. I'm trying to break the habit.

You should sleep the computer when you are not using it. If you will be gone more than a day, shut down the computer.

Do not leave it on 24/7, especially not an iMac G5 which has poor cooling to begin with.

Always back up your files. Get a FireWire (recommended) or USB 2.0 hard drive and use Time Machine. It's so easy, you have no excuse NOT to back up. You can get hard drives for as low as $50 for a slower USB 2.0 full size. I paid only $80 for my Iomega 320 GB laptop-sized drive with FireWire 400, 800, and USB 2.0. When you use FireWire with a laptop sized drive you don't even need a power cable.

If you have two Macs you can partition the drive in half and move it between the Macs.

i finally got the intel ram and it doesnt work, i tryed it in both slots, the computer wont start with it installed, i scanned both sides, the specs seem to match up, is it broken?

Are you sure it's a Core 2 Duo?

I know that if it's just a regular "Core Duo" then 2 GB SODIMMs won't work.

I have a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, and it has a 2 GB SODIMM in it right now - and it's some really super generic brand. Hynix is a pretty good brand so it should work.

yea, it might have gotten damaged in shipping. or that might have been why it was so cheap, its probly best to buy the second cheapest instead of THE cheapest
